Dear Brookes Westshore Families and Friends, This week, our school community witnessed wonderful moments of connection and joy. On Wednesday, our MYP2 students partnered with Grade 4 students for their first “Big Buddy, Little Buddy” reading block. The Grade 4 students eagerly looked up to their older buddies, sharing stories and reading books together. Meanwhile, our MYP2 students practiced the IB Learner Profile attributes of caring and communicator, helping their little buddies feel valued and understood. For many, this was a special opportunity to experience support and encouragement. Thanks to the Junior Student Leadership Council (JLC) for organizing and implementing this exciting program! On Thursday, our DP students partnered with Grades 4,5, and MYP1 students to work together on pumpkin carving. The Grade 4/5 students were excited to work side-by-side with their high school peers, engaging in creative expression and celebrating the festive season. This activity was not just about pumpkins and Halloween, it was about building relationships, fostering creativity, and giving our senior students a chance to demonstrate leadership through action. We had such fun and thanks to our Events Committee for organizing such an amazing Halloween event! We are proud of how our students embraced these opportunities to connect and grow together, contributing to a school culture that celebrates belonging, mentorship, and joy! With gratitude, Dr. Rui Li Principal Great fun and across-grade connection with costumes and pumpkin carving for Halloween! DP1 Chemistry Our DP1 (Grade 11) Chemistry students performed a flame test lab, where they observed vibrant colours and deepened their understanding of excitation and emission processes. This hands-on experiment made learning about atomic energy levels both educational and enjoyable! We are so grateful to live, learn, work, and play on Vancouver Island. Our stunning surroundings are a source of inspiration and calm throughout the year. Our students are able to walk out of our school and into the forest, and then follow the trail down to the ocean, or walk up into the hills. Our Golf Academy partnership with Olympic View Golf Club is a great way for our students to learn the fundamentals of this great sport and hone their skills under the direction of the club’s professional coach (and Brookes’ parent) Alanna. What could be better than swinging a club under the clear blue skies of beautiful Vancouver Island? The Junior Girls’ Volleyball Team had their last series of games on Monday at St. Andrew’s School. Their first game was against St. Andrew’s. They played well but lost both sets (20-25; 20-25). Their next game was against Victoria High School. They won the first set (25-17) then lost the second (15-25). Their final game was against St. Michael’s University School (SMUS). They lost the first set (20-25) but then bounced back to win the second set (25-20). It was great to finish on a high note. Congratulations to the players for a great season! Their coaches have been very pleased with the excellent progress the team has made over the course of the season! Our Boys' Basketball Team recorded another victory this week with a strong display of attacking flare and teamwork against Glanford Middle School.
