Keep up-to-date with what's been going on at The Orchard School! Executive Principal updateHello all, I am now a month into my new role as Executive Principal here at Orchard, and I have to say I have received a lot of support from pupils, parents, carers and staff so far, so I am incredibly grateful for that. The school is a hive of activity with some wonderful projects underway, including the wonderful Christmas Appeal which has been set up by one of our pupils, to collect donations for our local Children's Ward. You can read more about this further down in the newsletter. You will hopefully also have seen that we are hosting an Open Day on Thursday 15th December where we will be offering tours of our Laceby and Sargon sites for pupils currently in year 6. Please see the advert below for further information - please do pass the event details onto anyone who you think may be interested. As we approach the end of the Autumn term, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our pupils, parents, carers and staff an enjoyable, restful Christmas break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Tuesday 3rd January. If you have any questions, or anything you would like to discuss with me, please don't hesitate to get in touch on: sbroderick@orchardhumber.co.uk or 01472 898498. Kind regards, Steve Broderick Executive Principal Recycled treatsWell done to Class 1 who recycled objects to make treats to sell to parents, to help raise money for new equipment for their class. They raised a fantastic £144! SEN Football leagueWe are so proud of our learners who represented Orchard Education at the Lincolnshire FA SEN league in Lincoln. Our learners represented the school fantastically well showing respect and resilience throughout. We look forward to playing other fixtures throughout the year. We would like to say a huge thanks to Grimsby Borough FC for the donation of our kit and MC Engineering Solutions for the donation of some football boots - we really appreciate the kind support from our local community. Both teams scored some brilliant goals as well as gaining confidence in each game they played (sadly we lost but next time …..). It was great to see class 4 braving the weather recently with The Canoe River Cleaner. As part of their Personal Learning Plans they carried out a litter pick, and learned about the different plants and wildlife in the area. River clean-upCohen's Christmas AppealOne of our year 11 pupils, Cohen Cullum, has arranged a Christmas appeal for the Rainforest Children’s Ward at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital. Visits to our local communityClasses have been visiting a range of places in our local community as part of their PLP (Personal Learning Plan). Here's one of our learners getting into the Christmas spirit at Brigg Garden Centre! New multi-sensory roomA before and after picture of the messy Den which is now a multi-sensory room with a calming library area. A big thank you to Harriet and Jodie for giving up their Sunday morning to help me! Shoebox AppealSome of our learners recently made these shoeboxes full of presents for elderly people who spend Christmas alone. They budgeted, carefully planned what items they were going to purchase, went to the shop, wrapped and packed the shoeboxes and even wrote personalised letters and Christmas cards. The lady who took the donations was overwhelmed with how well the learners had done, and how much effort they put into it. She even commented on how emotional she felt as it will really make someone's day. Christmas holiday clubsPlease click on the button below, to view a range of different holiday clubs which are taking place over the Christmas period around our area that all our learners can access, and include a meal. Some can be booked online, some you will need to call to book, but please be quick as they do tend to be popular. 22/23 term datesYou can view our term dates by clicking on the button below. |
