Message from CEO

Hello Members.

Whilst we still have many challenges post COVID closures and broad restrictions, isn’t it great to see our world coming back to a new form of normal. I enjoy particularly being able to see the smiles of hospitality and retail people as they serve me, instead of them being hidden behind their facemasks.

Events are back on and there is still time to register for next Wednesday’s “A Time to Grow” with our very own Tash Callewaert presenting her very personal story of resilience.

We believe that this will be a truly inspirational event and well worth you investing time to be part of. After Tash speaks, there is time allowed for networking with finger food available. If you would like a beer or wine at the same time, you will be able to purchase your refreshments at bar prices, other than that, this event is completely free to us, courtesy of Victorian Government funding.

You won’t want to miss out, people will be talking about Tash’s story for years to come.

Squad are hosting this month’s Business After Hours on May 25 at Michael & Stacey’s Church Street Hotel.  Squad have achieved the major milestone of forty years in business and really want to celebrate with you – in fact you are welcome to join them until well into the evening, way past the normal 7:30pm closure at most Business Afters Hours.  Book early to avoid disappointment is my advice to you, as the venue does have a capacity limit.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at these two major events.

-Graham

A Time To Grow

As a business owner for over a decade, Tash understands the challenges that small businesses face when every role displayed on an ‘org chart’ is often the responsibility of that small business owner. Tash first started to understand how she could share the journey of the business owner when she was asked to contribute to a publication called ‘Know the Game’ a book
for 1st time business owners & entrepreneurs. Over the course of Tash’s career she has won multiple awards from Outstanding Manager in Small Business to the coveted National Franchisee of the Year for Quest
Apartment Hotels, Tash has also come close to going into administration. When Tash picked up her whole life & moved to the regional twin city of Albury Wodonga she had a monkey on her back that she knew she needed to shake so she backed herself Tash brings a wealth of knowledge to share with your audience her successes & her failures have helped shape who she is & how she approaches business & life.

As the owner of Quest Wodonga, when the pandemic hit, Tash and her business, including her team, were decimated. How Tash navigated this uncharted territory and kept her business trading is testament to her skills, resolve and determination. You don’t want to miss her story.

Note: As this is a Victorian Government funded event, entry is open only to Victorian businesses and their teams.

Local Jobs Program

In April 2022, 18% of employing businesses did not have enough employees.

Medium businesses were more likely than large and small businesses to report staff shortages (34% compared with 31% and 17%).

For businesses with insufficient staff, 84% advised that the inability to find suitable staff was a contributing factor in April, an increase compared to January (69%).  Conversely, the impact of uncertainty due to COVID-19 on staffing levels has decreased in April (36%) compared to January (62%). This coincides with COVID-19 restrictions easing across the country.

The Local Jobs Program can help assist in bringing together expertise, resources and access to funding at the local level to focus on reskilling, upskilling and employment pathways for people in each region. If your business needs assistance, please get in touch with Brendan or Faye.

Solar for Business

The Solar for Business Program supports Victorian businesses reduce their operating costs by enabling them to access the benefits of renewable energy and was launched in May 2021.

This initiative reduces energy bills for businesses by offering rebates to support the installation of an approved small-scale solar PV system.

Rebates cover up to 50 per cent of the cost of a rooftop solar system with businesses eligible for a maximum rebate of $3,500 to reduce the upfront cost of installing solar on their business premises.
