Join us as we celebrate Australia Day on Wednesday 26 January in Blacktown!

Wake up with the Wildlife Breakfast

Start the day by enjoying breakfast with your favourite feathered and furry friends at Featherdale Sydney Wildlife Park, Doonside!

There are only 3 session times (7.30 am - 9.00 am, 9.30 am - 11.30 am, and noon - 2 pm) so get in quick!

Tickets cost $7 per person and will be available to purchase online on Wednesday 5 January.

Due to COVID-19 regulations currently in place, all patrons will be required to vacate the park once their booked session time has ended.

Australia Day Awards

Do you know a local resident who deserves to be recognised for making an outstanding contribution to community service, have attained remarkable achievements in education, sport, or the arts, or a community group who has organised a successful community event?

Australia Day Concert and Fireworks

Celebrate all of the festivities of Australia Day 2022 at our Australia Day Concert and Fireworks at the Rooty Hill!

The event will play host to an outstanding stage program including performances by Oz Icons Mike Whitney & Wayne Pearce, Dami Im, The Angels, free kids amusement rides, food trucks and stalls ahead of one of Western Sydney's most spectacular firework displays!

Do you know a little animal lover who dreams of being a zookeeper one day?

They can’t miss the opportunity to become a zookeeper these school holidays!

Featherdale Sydney Wildlife Park has created 3 new sessions with dates over the December/January school holidays. These will sell out so get in fast!

Little keepers will be accompanied by Featherdale keepers and an education officer for a range of activities around the park, making friends with a variety of animals, learning about their specific diets, the enrichment programs to educate and engage animals and most importantly, the important projects Featherdale is involved with across a variety of key species.

The Zookeeper for a Day Program is fully supervised by qualified education officers and keepers and morning tea, lunch and drinks will be provided.

Booking is essential and spots will fill up quickly.

All budding zookeepers receive as part of their ticket:

  • zookeeper for a day shirt or jumper
  • gift bag
  • free kids entry for their next visit to Featherdale
  • each child will receive a certificate of completion at the conclusion of the day.

Need to find a way to entertain your kids these holidays? Sharpen their science skills with this 'Rainbow Wizard Brew' recipe thanks to Kids' Early Learning Blacktown City!

What you'll need:

  • baking soda
  • food colouring
  • glitter
  • dishwashing soap/liquid
  • vinegar
  • glass jars
  • small plastic containers
  • tray.

What you need to do:

  1. Fill the glass jars halfway up with vinegar.
  2. Add a different food colouring dye and glitter to each jar.
  3. Squeeze some dishwashing soap/liquid in each jar.
  4. Pour a heaped teaspoon of baking soda to each jar, stir and watch the foam start to form, overflow and fizzle.
  5. To make it change colours, add a tablespoon of vinegar mixed with one food colouring and dump it in the centre of the brew.

Enjoy the summer weather at one of our new and upgraded community facilities these school holidays!

Two local parks, Corbin Reserve, Pye Road, Quakers Hill and Glenwood Reserve, Forman Avenue, Glenwood both received upgrades as part of Council's works improvement program. 

Corbin Reserve now features a multi-play tower with slides, rope/balance trail, spinner, swings, rocker and seating. Meanwhile Glenwood Reserve features a multi-play tower with a slide and rope play items, swings, sandplay items (in a sandpit) and music items to complement the existing cableway/ flying fox and springer.

Other playspaces that have been completed across the city recently include:

  • Midway Park, Midway Place, Lethbridge Park
  • Brewongle Walkway, Burke Street, Blacktown
  • Best Road Reserve, Best Road, Seven Hills
  • Reserve 794, corner Stanhope Parkway and Sunnyholt Road, Stanhope Gardens
  • Harry Dennison Park, Hartington Road, Rooty Hill.

You may also wish to consider visiting other recently upgraded sport and recreation facilities across the city, including:

  • Youth skate and recreation space – Riverstone Park, Garfield Road West, Riverstone
  • Multi-purpose courts – Hanna Reserve, Hyatts Road, Oakhurst
  • Poppondetta Park playspace, Franklin Crescent, Emerton
  • Cricket nets – Ropes Crossing Reserve, Guild Place, Ropes Crossing
  • Outdoor Fitness Equipment – Reserve 882, Edgewood Drive, Stanhope Gardens.

We hope residents will get to enjoy these new facilities over the summer holidays!

School holiday activities at PCYC Blacktown

School Holidays are back and bigger than ever at PCYC Blacktown, with a whopping 5 weeks of activities to choose from!

Their summer school holiday program will run from 20 to 23 December, and all weekdays from 3 to 31 January 2022 (excluding Australia Day).

A day at PCYC Blacktown goes from 9 am to 3 pm and only costs $35 a day.

Activities range from basketball, boxing, Zumba, scavenger hunts, and arts and crafts. Any kids participating will have to be members at PCYC, which is only $10 for a yearly membership.

With 6 low cost art workshops, children will take home something new every time. Book in for one or a few and enjoy the summer break being creative with experienced, local facilitators.
