Battle of the Bridge squads announced Bowls Auckland is delighted to announce its squads selected for the Battle of the Bridge. The annual Battle of the Bridge is marked on the calendar for Sunday, 3 December. This formidable representative challenge between North Harbour and Auckland follows the Ryders Cup format - the title and winners' bragging rights are determined by the combined results of each team's eight players! Each centre will put forward Men’s and Women’s teams for three squads – Premier, Premier Development and 1-5 Year, and each team participates in two games of Fours, four games of Pairs and eight Singles matches. Townies vs IslandOn Wednesday 22 November, a contingent of townies headed across the Gulf to play Club Waiheke in the Townies vs Island event, aka the Battle of the Gulf. Some 19 townies dressed in Bowls Auckland colours of blue and white (along with an invited Kohimarama team) were excited about the day. While the 2 bowl Triples format was a drawcard for sporting competition and friendly rivalry, the day wasn’t just about playing bowls. For the Bowls Auckland team, the day was an opportunity to be part of Club Waiheke’s awesome set-up and social environment. Kohi wins local business awardBy Cynthia Morris Representing Kohimarama Bowling Club at the Awards Night: Jim Jercievich, Treasurer; Margie Sorensen, President; Cynthia Morris, BDO and Jill Compton, Secretary. So.. Christmas came early for our club this year when Kohimarama Bowling Club was awarded the best Not-for-Profit / Social Enterprise at the Ōrākei Local Board Business Awards 2023 on Tuesday, 21 November. A well-deserved reward, the judges commented, “What an extraordinary little bowling club, high goals set, strong measurement of achievements, and great strategic marketing. Well done!” The awards were conceived in 2018 by the Local Board as a means to identify, strengthen and showcase the diverse range of high-quality and successful businesses of the Ōrākei area. The process began in September with a nomination, then progressed with written submissions, active voting on a public ballot, and secret shopper visits and reviews. "What an honour to be recognised by our local community. Such a buzz, and wonderful for all our members, sponsors and supporters (including the Orakei Board) who make this great little club tick." buzzed Club President Margie Sorensen.
