No images? Click here Hi there Wow! What an incredibly humbling, reaffirming and heartening response to my last email introducing the Explore Pain events. I've been happily receiving and responding to a pleasant avalanche of emails with questions and thoughts and, very kindly of you, well wishes for the events. One central theme that has emerged is the question as to whether the events will be live streamed, or somehow available online, and I thought I'd take a quick moment to answer that here too. Currently, Explore Pain will be a live event. We've got so much interaction and active learning planned, we are not yet sure how it would translate into an online event. BUT! We have heard you all, and are already working on exploring (yep, pun intended) ways to bring this to an online audience too. Thanks for your understanding and patience with this, and you certainly will be the first to know when we've cracked it and have something to offer. I've already sent a number of you a few links and papers as an, admittedly poor, consolation for not being able to attend, and for those of you that know me, I do love to (over?)share a stimulating paper or cracking video presentation. To that end, I have planned some upcoming emails to provide a carefully curated series of resources that have been the inspiration for Explore Pain. Some may be obvious, and some may be rather obscure, but I promise there is a method behind my madness and whether you are able to attend or not, you will at least be the wiser for reading and watching the work of some of the cleverest people on the planet! First up, the foundation, the bedrock, the footing, the base, the cornerstone... An Embodied Predictive Processing Theory of Pain from Kiverstein, Kirchhoff and Thacker In the words of B. Wooster, this one should leave you with a face shining like the seat of a bus driver's trousers, and your (embodied) mind racing with the possibilities! The full PDF is available at the link above, but if you have any issues accessing it, or any other questions about the Explore Pain events, remember to email me directly at tim@noigroup.com. He was able to link concepts together well, provided great practical examples and ways of integrating new knowledge into clinical practice.” The artwork in this email has been generated by the Artificially Intelligent "artist" Midjourney using a combination of language text prompts. |
