Farewell Reverend Professor Andrew Dutney

It is with mixed feelings and deep regret that the Synod Standing Committee of South Australia recently accepted the resignation of  Rev Professor Andrew Dutney from his roles as Executive Officer and Principal with Uniting College for Leadership and Theology.

Andrew has had an illustrious and dedicated career with the Uniting Church in Australia. His ministry has been characterised by innovative leadership in theological education, research and teaching both nationally and internationally.

We are consulting with all the presbyteries and various groups across the Synod about the Presbytery Re-structure Review and value the input of congregations, ministry agents and individuals as to your experience of the restructure. You are invited to participate in the review by completing a survey.

If Christian leadership is informed and shaped by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus then clearly we will be eager to avoid complaints of bullying and harassment. More positively we will be seeking to build communities that are marked by welcome, hospitality and generosity.

Event Highlight

Jesus calls us to go out and preach the Gospel of the Kingdom. But what is the Kingdom of God? What does Jesus have to do with it? How do we proclaim the Gospel anyway? On Saturday, November 20th from 9.30 am Rev David Kowalick will lead The Gospel of the Kingdom seminar at Coromandel Valley Uniting Church.

  • For all experiencing mental health issues may they find peace and comfort as they work towards recovery.

Reflection

In Mark 10:35-45, James and John’s sense of entitlement seems quite extraordinary. They may have listened to Jesus’ teachings, but not ‘heard’ the truth deep in their souls. They slipped into the patterning of their familiar Honour/Shame, hierarchical society, where ‘position’ denotes power and status.
