National Reconciliation Week
27th May to 3rd June 2022
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time of coming together to recognise shared experiences in Australia. To acknowledge the shared history of Australia there must be an aspect of truth telling. This involves acknowledging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders as the First Peoples of Australia. Read more

June / July issue of New Times
The June/July issue of New Times is on its way to congregations. In this issue we shine a spotlight on the work of UnitingCare. 'When Jesus shocked the establishment by daring to eat with "sinners" he was making it very clear that service and justice was an integral part of what it meant to practice the Gospel in the community. This has flowed on through the centuries and been part of what it means to be part of the Uniting Church and, before that, in its antecedent churches.' Read more
Worship Resources for Pentecost Sunday and World Environment Day
As we approach Pentecost Sunday on the 5th June 2022, which coincides with World Environment Day, Assembly is preparing a short video with a Bible reading, Psalm and a short prayer in diverse languages for worship services at local congregations and faith communities. The video will be available to download next week on the Assembly website. WA Synod is offering congregations a resource to be used on World Environment Day written by Rev Gordon Scantlebury. As June 5 is also Pentecost Sunday, Gordon has woven both themes into his reflection. Read more
Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in Australia will be observed in the week between Ascension and Pentecost. The theme for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in 2022 was chosen by the Middle East Council of Churches 'We saw the star in the East, and we came to worship' (cf Matthew 2:2) More than ever, in these difficult times, we need a light that shines in the darkness and that light, Christians proclaim, has been manifested in Jesus Christ. There are many different types and ways of prayer but essentially, it is about relationship with God. He talks with us sharing His heart, and we talk with Him, sharing our hearts. In the place of prayer, we help to keep our hearts soft and this causes faith to rise within us, because in the place of intimate prayer we gain a deeper understanding of who God is. We also start to see the role and purpose for our lives here in this place. God has good plans for each of us and through prayer we discover what that is. Read more
This week we pray: For the forthcoming Synod Meeting and for our leaders and members of Synod as we prepare to gather to share in celebrating and discerning our future
For the on-going journey of healing, reconciliation and relationship between First and Second Peoples in Australia
For the incoming Australian Government and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese; that those who represent us will work to build communities of care and compassion where all belong and may flourish.
