Green Leader Q&A #28: Selina Donald, Founder of Sustainability Consultancy The Bulb

Selina founded The Bulb in 2015 to champion sustainability and legacy in the Live Events Industry. Selina has been part of high-profile projects including the London Olympics 2012 opening and closing ceremonies, England 2018 World Cup Bid, COP, the Rio Olympics 2016, #March4Women. In 2022, Selina led the sustainability strategy for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies, achieving truly ambitious sustainability policy and performance goals. Read Selina's answers here.

NewsTHE 2022 INDUSTRY GREEN SURVEY RESULTS HAVE LANDED!

In this 8th year of the annual Industry Green Survey, 119 festivals and events with a combined audience of over 2.1 million took part; from community events to the largest summer music events in the UK. Event Power Efficiency 101: The Power Management Hierarchy

Chair of Powerful Thinking, Tim Benson, kicks off the year with a blog reminding events and event power suppliers to prioritise prevention, efficiency and reductions in 2023 power plans.

Newsecolibrium doubles reach and impact in 2022

ecolibrium, the charity that supports the live events industry to tackle travel emissions, doubled its active members in 2022 uniting festivals and event companies in environmental restoration and balancing 13.4 million travel miles with climate investments.

In 2022, their membership of 60 festivals, events, suppliers and music companies engaged with ecolibrium to understand how best to tackle audience, artist and supplier travel miles.  With unavoidable carbon emissions balanced with investments in ecosystem protection and regeneration, and community-scale clean energy projects. Read more about ecolibrium's 2022 impacts.

EventAIF CONGRESS 2023 Full line up announced

Festival Congress returns to Bristol in 2023 on Wednesday 1st February. The conference will be held at Bristol Beacon and the evening festival party at Loco Klub.

The line up includes high profile keynotes, panel sessions, TED x style quick fire talks, breakout workshops and fireside chats with speakers from across the festival and events world. Vision: 2025's sessions include an introduction to The Future Festival Tools: a set of free resources designed to empower event professionals with green competency. EventAFO CONFERENCE virtual conference 2023

The AFO Conference will return virtually on Saturday 25th February, 10:00-17:00, with tickets now on sale.

The conference will include speakers discussing a wide range of relevant topics in the festival and events sector. EventGEI Conference announces Keynote Speakers

The Green Events and Innovations Conference (GEI15) takes place in London on Tuesday 28th February, 2023. 

GEI have announced the renowned musician, producer and visual artist Brian Eno will be joining the event for a special keynote conversation with Grammy award-winning artist Jacob Collier. The GEI15 agenda includes sessions covering transport, energy, food, equality, inclusivity & climate justice, and design & materials usage for circularity. EventEvent Production Show Sustainability Sessions

The Event Production Show returns to the ExCel Centre, London, 1-2 March.

Vision: 2025 joins to host the panel, 'Sustainable Solutions Now', 14:30-15:15, 2nd March, with Vision: 2025's Graham Brown in conversation with Rebecca Whitman, Sustainability Manager at Green Space Dark Skies, AEG Europe's Director of Sustainability Sam Booth, Abena Fairweather, CEO, Legacy Marketplace and Rob Scully, Head of Operations at ZAP Concepts.

NewsSHAMBALA RELEASES SUSTAINABILITY IMPACT REPORT 2022

Shambala Festival have published their most comprehensive Impact Report to date, sharing the highlights and the challenges of their sustainability initiatives at last year’s event.

With a timeline of their journey since the first ever Shambala in 1999 to winning the International Clearwater award in 2023; plus a detailed breakdown of their carbon footprint and chapters dedicated to each area of impact. The report is a must-read for event sustainability profs and event organisers looking for practical guidance, not only on how to create a greener event, but how to inspire audiences to come on the journey too. Cube Modular's new service supports events to reduce travel impacts

Cube Modular's new service adds a summary of projected transport carbon emissions into quotes for its festival clients, plus a travel footprint report post-event, using ecolibrium’s carbon calculator tool. The information supports clients to maximise the efficiency of deliveries and understand the potential and actual carbon emission savings achieved through Cube's Continest system.

Headline figures from their reports show carbon emissions savings of 9,588kg for Boardmasters, 9,975kg for Black Deer, 16,788kg for Tartan Heart, and 11,000kg for On The Beach festivals. For those four festivals alone, 112 trucks were taken off the road using Cube’s Continest onsite buildings which are hugely efficient to transport due their flat-packable design. White Light becomes a certified B Corp

Following a rigorous assessment, technical solutions specialist White Light is now a certified B Corp, joining a socially and environmentally conscious movement of 1000 UK-based and over 6000 companies worldwide.
