Tirzepatide authorised by MHRA

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has granted marketing authorisation for tirzepatide, a top pharmaceutical company has announced.

Eli Lilly and Company has received authorisation for its once-weekly GIP receptor and GLP-1 receptor agonist for the treatment of adults with insufficiently controlled type 2 diabetes as an adjunct to diet and exercise.

Latest research published in the New England Journal of Medicine has revealed the life-changing benefits of flash blood glucose monitoring for people with type 1 diabetes.

The findings reveal that flash – which allows people to see their blood sugar levels by scanning their sensor – not only helps improve overall blood glucose levels by reducing both high and low glucose levels in people with type 1 diabetes, but also has a positive effect on their treatment satisfaction.

JBDS launch inpatient diabetes service survey

Inpatient teams are being asked to complete a survey on which healthcare professionals are needed to deliver good diabetes care in hospital.

The questionnaire has been launched by the Joint British Diabetes Societies for Inpatient Care (JBDS-IP) and aims to identify the right number of staff needed to deliver an ideal, state-of-the-art inpatient diabetes service in the UK.

Updated NICE diabetic foot guidance out for consultation

Healthcare professionals are invited to review and comment on a revised version of the ‘Diabetic foot problems: prevention and management’ NICE guideline.

As part of the update, the authors have:

  • Updated the existing research recommendation on frequency of diabetic foot checks and made a new research recommendation on digital and emerging technologies for assessing the risk of diabetic foot problems
  • Reviewed the evidence on risk assessment tools for diabetic foot problems and frequency of diabetic foot reviews
  • Made no new recommendations.
