Keep up-to-date with what's been going on at Highgate Hill House School! Principal updateHello all, Just a short newsletter from us this time as April seems to have whizzed by since we returned from the Easter break! I hope that you enjoy some of the photos of what our learners have been up to below, some of which may even inspire you to have a go at home. We are very much looking forward to our King's Coronation celebration on Friday 5th May (more details further down in this newsletter), plus we are also hosting a community event on Friday 18th May, where we are inviting parents and carers of school aged children to a free information event, where they will be able to listen to guest speakers and also speak to staff about the school admissions and EHCP process if their child is currently struggling in a mainstream setting. More information about this event can be found further down in the newsletter. Lastly, don't forget that 1st and 8th May are both bank holidays so school will closed on both days. As always, if you have any questions, or anything you would like to discuss with me, please don't hesitate to get in touch in the usual way: kerry.taylor@hhhschool.co.uk, 01288 341998 or 07534 659306. Warm wishes, Kerry Taylor Principal Free Information EventWe are very pleased to be hosting a free information event for parents and carers of children with additional needs, to help them navigate the school admissions and EHCP process. We frequently receive enquiries from people whose children are struggling in a mainstream setting, and they are just starting out on their educational support journey. At this stage, most people are unsure of the process, often bursting with questions and queries, but they don't know where to go next or who to ask. So we've decided to do something about it! The event will take place on Thursday 18th May 4-6pm, and will offer attendees the opportunity to hear from guest speakers, speak with staff on a one-to-one basis to discuss individual circumstances plus ask any questions they may have to staff and visitors from other supporting organisations. Please do pass the details of this event onto anyone with school aged children who you think may benefit. The event is free to attend, spaces just need to be reserved in advance via Eventbrite. Please click the button below to book. Dandelion honeyDuckpool class have been busy foraging and even made their own dandelion honey from scratch. See step-by-step photos of each stage below, plus a link to a recipe if you fancy having a go at home. It looks and smells delicious! King's Coronation celebrationsTo celebrate the King's Coronation which will be taking place on Saturday 6th May, we are planning a street party for our learners on Friday 5th May to mark this momentous occasion. Learners are very welcome to come dressed as their favourite member of the Royal Family, or wearing red, white and blue if they wish! We look forward to sharing the photos with you in due course. Wild seed bombsYou may have seen that as part of #RHSBigSeedSow our learners have been making wild seed bombs, and placing them in various shops and churches for the people in our local communities to help themselves. They seem to have gone down a treat! Thank you to Holsworthy Library for kindly donating the wild flower seeds to make them. May bank holidaysAs the King's Coronation is taking place on Saturday 6th May 2023, the following Monday (8th May) has been announced as an additional bank holiday. This will mean that there are now a total of 3 bank holidays in May (1st, 8th & 29th). We will continue to send out reminders just in case! Outdoor learningAs well as learning about fire safety, Sandymouth class have been experimenting with some colour changing crystals recently in their Outdoor Learning sessions. Note - the crystals can't be used on a fire you plan to cook on, but they do look very beautiful! Safeguarding contactsThe Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Kerry Taylor.
