2021 IAH/NCGRT Distinguished Lecturer
The Australian IAH Chapter and NCGRT are excited to announce the 2021 Distinguished Lecturer, Professor Ray Froend. Ray Froend is a Professor in Applied Ecology and Associate Dean of Science at Edith Cowan University, Western Australia. Ray’s research expertise lies in plant ecology and he currently leads a research group recognised for work on impacts of altered groundwater regimes on wetland and terrestrial vegetation. He also works on ecophysiology of phreatophytes, water requirements of groundwater dependent ecosystems and ecohydrology. We look forward to Ray's lecture presented later this year. More details will be available in the coming months. Stay tuned!
Australian Groundwater School
The Australian Groundwater School (AGS) provides a rigorous introduction to groundwater science and management. The premier course of its type in Australasia, this five-day ‘school’ is designed to build on the NCGRT’s Groundwater Essentials courses. Who should attend?
The course is ideal for scientific, policy and management personnel who want to gain a solid understanding of groundwater. This year, the AGS is being held online. Dates are 12-16 April and 5-9 July 2021.

Friends of Groundwater produce a perspective paper on ground water quality
Groundwater learning free of charge.... The Friends of Groundwater, a network of about 30 global groundwater experts representing 20 institutions and organisations, recently prepared a comprehensive paper on groundwater quality: “Assessing Groundwater Quality: A Global Perspective. Importance, Methods, and Potential Data Sources”. The paper is prepared in the framework of the World Water Quality Assessment led by UN Environment
(UNEP) and was presented at the 2nd annual global meeting of the World Water Quality Alliance 27-28 January 2021. While some countries have been collecting and reporting national or regional data on groundwater quality, such information is still lacking in other parts of the world. This was also reflected in a UN Sustainable Development Goals interim report “Progress on Ambient Water Quality” in which only a small percentage of countries reported on groundwater quality. The perspective paper is the first product towards better assessment of groundwater quality globally. Stay tuned by following the activities of Friends of Groundwater via a dedicated Groundwater Quality Portal. The portal is in its early development and will soon include a GIS interface and a reference
database. Join us!
March 22nd is UN World Water Day and this year's theme is Valuing Water. Share your thoughts and experiences on social media to spark conversations and raise awareness of this valuable resource. #WORLDWATERDAY
EGU General Assembly 2021 - Vienna, Austria 25-30 April 2021 Interpore - Third Biennial Meeting of the Australian Chapter of InterPore, Perth, Australia 2-5 May 2021 Asia Oceania Geosciences Society annual meeting to be held virtually 1-6 August 2021 Abstract submission is open until March 9.
Submissions are still to be sought for Session HS15: Hydrological and Ecological Processes in Non-perennial Streams.
