FC Naples names Matt Poland as head coach ahead of inaugural season
FC Naples has announced the man who will lead the team in its inaugural season. Matt Poland has been named the head coach of the USL's newest expansion team, which is coming together step-by-step. This announcement comes one month after the team's name, colors and crest were revealed.
"[I'm] absolutely just overwhelmed and excited with it and so thankful for the opportunity to coach in my hometown," said Poland, the head coach and sporting director of FC Naples.
"This is definitely a top moment, milestone moment for us," said FC Naples CEO Bob Moreno. "We were saying that our sporting site is being born. Matt is coming in now, and now the fun process starts with recruiting players and actually building the team that's going to be out on the field."
Poland comes to FC Naples with a plethora of experience on the pitch. Originally a Rochester, Minnesota native, Poland played soccer at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana. His professional playing experience extends overseas in Finland. But for the past 13 years, Poland has called Southwest Florida home.

Hello Everyone,
The huge highlight from July was the “Drones in Paradise” show that we were honored to be able to present to thousands upon thousands of our fellow Collier County residents.
This was an event that was planned for months in advance with multiple agencies and companies involved. I was really proud of the way that our staff delivered the event and enjoy working hand in hand with the Parks and Recreation department as one huge team to execute a great event for the local community.
Having been involved from the beginning of the content of the drone show it was great to see our ideas come to life in the sky. I watched in awe from the stadium deck…concern that I thought I could hear thunder, only to realize it was the sound of stomping feet on our bleachers with the people there showing appreciation for the show!
As we look into the second half of the year we only have more events that we can look forward to, with the exciting development of our very own Soccer team, FC Naples who have announced their head coach and soon the schedule of their games, along with more music events alongside our already jam packed sports schedule.
Final word must go to Sarah Culp, who has been part of our team as our Event and Tournament Director. Her efforts to put this venue on an ever-increasing successful trajectory have been critical. She is moving on with her career taking a role closer to her home in Pennsylvania. Thank you and Good Luck Sarah!
