Click here News from Kennedy | Spring Edition 2024Message from the PrincipalWelcome to our Semester Newsletter.I am delighted to share some of our College's recent achievements and events with our community, whether you are a future family, a potential employee, or a part of our Alumni, with the Class of 2024 the newest members. Over the past three decades, our College has grown into a place of educational excellence enriched by our Christian values, and it was outstanding to have many former staff and students commemorate this history during our 30 Year Celebrations last Term. It is obvious that Kennedy, along with our forerunner Colleges, have had a profound impact on the lives of many in our community. Today, we continue to strive to improve the lives of our students through our academic, athletic and Pastoral Care programs and, in this newsletter, we reflect on our recent success in each of these areas. Looking ahead, we are excited to announce that our talented students will be performing Annie: The Musical in Term 1 of 2025. This production will be a wonderful showcase of our students’ artistic talents, and we warmly invite you to join us for what promises to be a fantastic event. At Kennedy Baptist College, we strive to nurture well-rounded individuals who are prepared to succeed and make a difference. As we approach the end of another successful year, we look forward to more families joining us in our exceptional learning environment in 2025.
Mark Ashby Campus News30 Years of Educational ExcellenceKennedy Baptist College has a shared history that extends right back to 1994 with the establishment of Winthrop Baptist College, a school formed to meet the increasing educational needs of secondary school students paired with a Christian mission that informed its pastoral care. Joined by Somerville Baptist College in 1999, these two forerunner Colleges eventually merged to create Kennedy in 2013. We were honoured to host a celebration of all three schools in Term 3, in order to commemorate the important impact of our staff, students and families while also launching our Alumni Network to keep in touch with all those who have made Kennedy what it is before. Find out more about this great event and watch back the fascinating discussions by clicking on the links below. Specialist Sports ProgramsAlongside some impressive showings at our Cross Country and Athletics Carnivals during Terms 2 and 3, our Specialist Basketball students have competed well in a range of Interschool contests. The Junior Girls team led the way, making both the SSWA and ACC Grand Finals. As we turn towards Summer, our Specialist Cricket teams will be putting on their gloves and pads for another great season, building on what they learn at both Elite Cricket Training and Athlete X Gym. Discover our next level Specialist Sports programs below. Chaplain ChatsAt Kennedy, we are blessed with a support team that includes a dedicated College psychologist, College counsellors and our Chaplain Peter Chase. Along with Christian Education teacher, Mr John Asphar, Peter led a series of talks with our Year 12 students to open up conversations around faith that will stay with these young adults well after they graduate from the College. Read about these discussions via the link on the left and subscribe to our fortnightly newsletter for more from our Chaplain. 2024 NAPLAN ResultsOur Year 7 and Year 9 students recently completed their NAPLAN tests, with more than 85% of each cohort considered 'Strong' or 'Exceeding' across all assessments. This fantastic result is well above the state average and indicates that our students continue to progress each year that they spend at the College, with the proficiency levels of Year 9 students higher than those in Year 7. Helping our CommunityCommunity outreach makes up one of the four pillars of our Pastoral Care program, with each year group participating in programs designed to help our community and give students an opportunity to grow and learn about the wider world. Some great examples of service include our Year 7 students hosting morning teas for Lakeside Seniors, Year 9s visiting a wide range of local community groups, and our Year 11s helping prepare food for the Ronald McDonald House. Employer of ChoiceAs a leading co-educational Christian school, Kennedy Baptist College strives to provide a supportive and caring environment for our staff, with great importance on well-being and professional learning and development. A number of roles are available to apply for as we prepare for the future, including both teaching and non-teaching work.
