First Topics & Speakers Announced for Sustainable Events Summit 2024

The panel topics and first speakers have been confirmed for Vision: 2025’s Sustainable Events Summit (SES), hosted at the Showman’s Show, on Wed 23rd October 2024, and supported by title sponsor Festival Republic.

The SES 24 morning is an invitation-only industry roundtable session, where Green Leaders will focus on national policy priorities and sector strategy. A sustainable lunch is being supplied by Eat to The Beat, which will frame later conversations around food impacts.

The open-to-all and free-to-attend afternoon panels and sessions include: 'Shaping the Future: A Vision for 2030' with panel host Jon Collins CE of Live. The Tackling Travel Impacts panels will feature innovation from the season and is sponsored by 'You.Smart.Thing'.  A new “Quick Fire” session on this season's hot topics and new ideas, including updates from ecolibrium, Attitude is Everything, Eat to the Beat and intel on the upcoming Show Must Go On report. John Rostron returns to host the 'Best of the Summer' panel where leading festivals present behind-the-scenes insight on sustainability innovation.

Green Leader Q&A #44:  Paula Birtwhistle, Sustainability Advisor for Super Culture, Diverse City &Without Walls

Paula has worked in live events for over 25 years. Starting in sound and lighting she now combines her technical and logistical knowledge as a production manager. Her history in activism and social justice led to aligning the two paths and moving into sustainable production management. She produces her own light artwork and lighting festival GLOW which has sustainability at its heart. She is the sustainability advisor for Super Culture, Diverse City and Without Walls. Green Deal Circular Festivals Blog: Lower food & drink impacts by changing the behaviour of the crowd

Festivals have the power to design their food systems and influence what’s on the menu, poured from the tap, pricing, promotion, and the engagement of their audiences. In this blog for the Green Deal Circular Festivals project, Lyke Poortvliet discusses how festivals can reduce the impact of food and drinks through communication and behavioural change. The blog discusses what makes a low-impact dish, gives festival case study examples of system change and shares some key principles of effective behaviour change. Read the blog HERE.

Resource Spotlight: No Festivals on a Dead Planet Guide

Music Declares Emergency (MDE) has launched NO FESTIVALS ON A DEAD PLANET, sharing with a new festival sustainability guide for audiences on how they can support their favourite events to be greener. 

The guide has been created with Boomtown, Love Saves the Day, FORWARDS and Shambala. Event-goers who download the campaign can win tickets to Boomtown 2024, Shambala 2024, Forwards 2024 and Love Saves the Day 2025. Once signed up they join the MDE community and receive monthly Climate Action Challenges and tips.

LS Events put sustainability first at UEFA Champions league, London 2024

Sustainability was front and centre of LS Events' work on the UEFA Champions League Final City Operations in London 2024. LS Events delivered two Fan Meeting Points that welcomed 80,000 fans alongside the simultaneous delivery of the UEFA Champions Festival across five locations; Trafalgar Square, Regent Street, Somerset House, South Bank and Potters Field Park. 

LS Events worked with A Greener Future's (AGF) Event Sustainability Framework to scope and gather data for the event Carbon footprint analysis, create a sustainable event policy, and formulate an Event Sustainability Action Plan to allocate tasks and track status throughout the event, waste management planning, and consultancy and support covering procurements, food and beverage, serveware, merchandise, communications, and more. ADE Green returns on October 18, 2024. ADE Green is the pioneering conference on sustainability and social change within the music industry and is part of the ADE Pro conference during the Amsterdam Dance Event.
