News from the House.... No images? Click here Karinya News - January 2022Dear Friends of KarinyaAlmost February - Where did January go? There have been some beautiful days of summer with the blue skies and a gentle breeze, with quite a massive and damaging storm in the mix as well - which we know was not so lovely for some, including many of our fabulous wineries. We do hope amidst the haze (or storms) of summer days, you have been safe and well and enjoying some down time, some family time, some quieter times on the road, some country road tripping or just a bit of peace amidst the stuff of life. We have a question for you this edition. The 2022 Gala Dinner - Should we or shouldn't we - that is the question! If you have a view, yes, no, postpone and would or would not attend, please send a quick email to Jo. The Committee and the Team are pondering the answer also. Two fun facts to help you ponder. Currently there is no dancing and September 2022 is our 25th Anniversary! We may be able to dance by then! In the meantime, save the date whilst we ponder... Christmas 2021 at Karinya...One of the Karinya Team has shared this 'insider's view' of the Christmas Season at Karinya. We think you might enjoy it and she has kindly given permission to share... Christine's GiftFriday 7 January 2022 marked the last day of employment for Mrs Christine Hosking with Karinya House, following her retirement as a Support Worker. As Christine moves into retirement, we are marking her gift to Karinya House. Christine was first employed as a Support Worker on 3 June 2008. What an outstanding period of service for women in our community, spanning these years. The Karinya House Endowment FundThe Karinya Committee is pleased to launch the Karinya House Endowment Fund. Whilst recognising the importance of donor, corporate and community support during each financial year, to support the delivery of services to women, the Committee is also focused on financial sustainability in the long term. Snippets....Senior Health Professional, Alexandra, accompanied an outreach client to her pregnancy ultrasound in recent weeks. The woman was very nervous and unsure about what to expect but relaxed once she saw the baby's heart beating on the screen. The woman enjoyed the scan in the end and was incredibly thankful to have had a support person with her. A very lovely moment for them both. One of our residents said recently.. "Karinya saved my life. I would be on the streets if it wasn't for Karinya." From a woman living out in the community who requested some support over Christmas, "Thanks for helping me out in my difficult times. It was good to talk to you and share my ongoing situation. I will always be thankful for helping me and my babies when we need you. Your team is doing a wonderful job. Once again thank you so much for making Christmas so special for my babies." In answer to how are you going .. "I'm good! Feeling kind of relieved, like some weight has been taken off my shoulders and that I've done the right thing to reach out for some support. So yeah... feeling happy." #humansofkarinya #ourvillage #supportingwomen #walkingalongside 💜🌸 We give thanks ....Thank you... to all our donors, service partners and funding partners who have and are supporting Karinya's leadership change process. We are on the search for a new CEO and we are slowly adjusting our minds to the absence from the helm of the inspirational Marie-Louise Corkhill. Many of you have sent Marie-Louise email messages and she is working her way through responding and dealing with other governance matters. The Karinya Team will be gathering some time in March to farewell both Marie-Louise and Christine. The transitional leadership team who have been managing Karinya operationally (as per the transition plan) since late November do know one thing - Marie-Louise's legacy remains firmly in place - as the practice of care continues for the many, many women we are walking alongside. The Team is strong, committed and working together for good. Equally, many of our wonderful donors have re-confirmed their commitment to Karinya House. To every member of the Karinya Village - We remain as always thankful to All of you! as always. 💜 #supportingwomen #standingalongside #ourvillage #ourcommunity We acknowledge the Ngunnawal and Wiradjuri people, and other traditional custodians of the lands across which we work and live. We pay respect to Indigenous Elders past, present and emerging. Sovereignty has never been ceded. It always was and always will be, Aboriginal land. |
