Seed Funding Rounds

We are pleased to announce two NEW opportunities for disability research funding!

The Melbourne Disability Institute (MDI) is focused on developing much needed evidence, data and research to address the complex problems facing people with disability in this country. To do this, we want to facilitate research that is driven by people with disability and their families and that will make a real difference in their lives.

We are excited to announce our latest round of seed funding is now open for University of Melbourne Researchers. Grants of up to $30,000 will be awarded to facilitate research that is driven by people with disability and their families and that will have real world policy or practice impact.

We are also pleased to share an opportunity from the Healthy Trajectories Child and Youth Disability Research Hub. The Hub is offering seed grants between $20,000 and $30,000 for University of Melbourne projects which progress the Hub’s vision which is that all children and young people, including those with disability, have the best chance of reaching their full potential for health and participation across the life span. The purpose of this seed funding is to support small to medium sized projects that will either provide early exploratory / pilot data or contribute to building momentum in a program of work, and lead to external funding success or other sustainability outcomes.

You can read more about both opportunities on our website here or use the buttons below.

PhD Scholarship

PhD Scholarship Opportunity! Disability and Inequality
There is new and emerging evidence that much of the poorer health experienced by people with disability is avoidable. However, very little is known about the health inequalities people with disability in Australia face and how they can be closed.

If you would like to be part of changing this picture, this PhD scholarship may be just right for you. We are looking for a PhD student to join an existing research team looking at health inequalities, disability and the NDIS.

Event Recap | MDI Panel Discussion on What's next for Disability Policy, Practice and Research
At the recent Disability Research Community of Practice, University of Melbourne academics, staff and students came together to discuss the critical role that research, evidence and co-design can and should play in setting the reform agenda.

There was an expert panel to provide insights and  guidance on what it is like to try and run a reform agenda in a big portfolio area like disability and what the priorities should be.

We are keen to continue this important conversation this year and as we head into 2023.

Find out about opportunities and events that are happening in the community below. Interested in promoting your event, sharing a job posting, research opportunity or another item of interest? Send the details through to Sara.Donaldson@unimelb.edu.au.

The Melbourne Disability Institute was established in 2018 to build a collaborative, interdisciplinary and translational disability research program at the University of Melbourne.
