Dear Brookes Westshore Families and Friends,

As the year of 2024 comes to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect on the remarkable journey our community has taken together this year. Guided by the principles of the IB, our students have demonstrated curiosity, resilience, and a commitment to making a difference – whether through inquiry-based learning, acts of service, or exploring their roles as global citizens.

Thank you, everyone, for your continued support and partnership in making our school a thriving and vibrant community. I hope this holiday season gives you an opportunity to pause, celebrate growth with loved ones, and recharge.

The first day back to school after the winter break is Monday, January 6th.

Wishing everyone a very happy holiday and I look forward to welcoming you back in the new year, ready to embrace new opportunities and challenges!

With gratitude,

Dr. Rui Li

Principal

Spring Break Trips 2025

We have two amazing opportunities for our students coming up in March 2025.

Every year students from Brookes Westshore travel either to our sister school in the UK, or around our home province of beautiful British Columbia.

Both trips are full of adventure, fun, and learning opportunities!

The two trips available to students for Spring Break 2025 are:

UK Spring Break Tour (March 16th - 28th)

Grades: 6-9

$4200

Based at our sister school in the historic town of Bury St Edmunds, students are a short trip from world renowned Cambridge University, and just a couple of hours from London. Students will get to visit Shakespeare's birthplace at Stratford, visit the famous London Dungeons and much more!

BC Winter Tour / skiing trip (March 17th - 28th)

Grades: 8-12

$3900 (not including ski rentals/lift passes/lessons)

Traveling around our stunning home province, students will have the chance to ski at Mt Washington and Whistler, visit Vancouver for shopping and a Canucks game, as well as relaxing at the Harrison Hot Springs.

Full details of the trips can be found here!

Please register your interest by Friday, January 17th, 2025, by emailing Stephanie (sbloor@westshore.brookes.org).

Beautiful BC!

Dorm students have been enjoying some truly Canadian activities including outrigger canoeing, watching the Royals play, as well as a chance to skate with Santa!

A message from the outgoing SLC president, Susie:

I want to thank each of my fellow students who have shown incredible respect, patience, and encouragement as I took on the role of SLC President. I appreciate each piece of feedback and the creative ideas that you shared with me. A big thank you to each member of the SLC who I have had the honour to work with and who have put so much care into the work they do. It is because of our collaboration that we have achieved all that we have this past year. To my amazing vice president, Lucca, I appreciate all the support that he has given me. Starting the Junior Leadership Council together was such a memorable presidential project! Lastly, thank you to my mentors and supervisors, Mr.MacKnight and Mr.B for trusting me and providing me with this space to grow as a leader. You have taught me lessons that I will take with me for the rest of my life. I am extremely thankful to have had this opportunity, and I am so excited to see where the passionate, creative and intelligent Tish (Incoming President) and Kate (Incoming Vice President) take the SLC!

Food and Toy Drive Thanks!

Thank you to everyone for your generosity towards the CFAX Toy Drive and the Goldstream Food Bank. We had so many DP1 students on our committees and everyone worked hard to make this a success. We were able to deliver a significant number of food items and toys. The dormitory students raised $750 which we used to purchase toys!

Big Buddy Program

The Junior Student Leadership Council has organized a Big Buddy Program. Currently the students are doing buddy reading together but, in the future, they are looking forward to doing some student-planned activities too!

Santa paid a surprise visit to classes this morning - Happy Holidays!

Senior House Volleyball

Thursday ended with our Senior House Volleyball Cup competition. Congratulations to Wolf House for winning this year's Cup!

The Hockey Program this week had Mr. Luke being the surprise goalie and Mr. Ryan running the 'hardest shot' competition. It all ended with a full game where students showed off the skills they had learned over the term.
