A look back at the 2024 RYSE Fellowship Applicant Experience

LEARN MORE ABOUT RYSEFAX

Earlier this month, RYSE hosted faculty, program directors, fellowship applicants, and current fellows for our annual RYSE Fellowship Applicant Experience. This virtual event allows those who have applied to any of Emory’s ACGME-accredited subspecialty training programs to learn more about all Emory has to offer, including details about our amazing fellowship programs and the impactful experiences of our current fellows. This year’s RYSEFAX had the most participants to date and we are excited to continue this opportunity for future applicants next year!

 RYSE2Medicine at Tuskegee University Homecoming

RYSE Vice Chair Kimberly Manning, MD, represented Emory during Tuskegee’s homecoming weekend to connect with current students in the RYSE2Medicine program and recruit for the next cohort of participants. This impactful, longitudinal mentorship program is held in partnership with Tuskegee University, a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). The program's purpose is to serve as a pathway program for medical school preparation at no cost to students in hopes of increasing the number of URiM students in medical schools.

Reminder: Share Your Voice for Healing and Growing

The Actionable Education Initiative (AEI) subcommittee on anti-racism is continuing to ask the SOM community to share a story or experience influenced by difference. Submissions can include stories of microaggressions, discrimination, harm, the threat of harm, processing, healing, or allyship.

The de-identified stories will inform educational interventions and policies to help eradicate bias and injustice within our institution. Please note, if you do not wish to officially report any harm at this time, please keep your submissions free of identifying information, as AEI team members are mandatory reporters. However, you are never discouraged from reporting someone who has committed harm to you. For more information on sharing your story, reporting, and Emory University resources, click here.

AFFINITY MONTHS

Recognizing National Native American Heritage Month and Day

November is National Native American Heritage Month, and on Friday, November 29, we honor Native American Heritage Day. During this month, we honor and celebrate those of indigenous and native backgrounds as well as pay homage to these cultures and their lands.

Native American Heritage Day, which falls on the day after Thanksgiving each year, is a chance to learn more about the Indigenous people who called this land home. Emory University acknowledges the Muscogee (Creek) people, who in 1821 were forced to relinquish their land, which is where Emory’s Oxford and Atlanta campuses are now located. We acknowledge and honor the Muscogee people and other Indigenous peoples of this land and all others that were forcibly taken, and we commit to continue to learn, honor, and celebrate native and Indigenous cultures and lands. To learn more about Emory’s Land Acknowledgement and when, why, and how to use it, click here.
