Compliance with the 10 Child Safe Standards and SSRC Code of Practice.

 

Focus for June: Child Safe Standard 7 – Staff have knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children safe through continual education and training. 

 

 

 

This month we are highlighting focus on Child Safe Standard 7 and related responsibilities under Sections 22 and 23 of the SSRC Code of Practice. We encourage you to review your responsibilities under Sections 22 and 23 of the SSRC Code of Practice.

 

SSRC Code of Practice – Are you compliant?

 

Section 22 – Recruitment

✔ Staff have the required skills and qualifications.
✔ Working With Children Checks (WWCC) and NDIS Worker Checks are verified.
✔ Employers must verify each WWCC using the online Employer Portal provided by the Office of the Children’s Guardian.
✔ Reference checks and qualification verifications are completed.

Section 23 – Training and Supervision

✔ Child safety awareness training is provided before staff begin care for a child in SSRC. 
✔ Staff receive regular supervision and support in their SSRC roles.

 

Meeting your obligations under the Reportable Conduct Scheme.

 

The NSW Reportable Conduct Scheme monitors how organisations respond to and investigate allegations of specific types of conduct involving children.

 

As an SSRC provider, you must:

  • notify the Office of the Children’s Guardian of reportable allegations or convictions involving employees or volunteers

  • investigate the allegation

  • report the outcome to the Office of the Children’s Guardian

  • take appropriate preventative action.
