Third Annual Whoopie Pie Festival Success
The Chamber & Economic Development of the Rutland Region (CEDRR) wants to thank everyone who made the Third Annual Whoopie Pie Festival a success! This event has been heralded as the largest event Downtown Rutland has ever held with over 7,500 people attending! Sixteen vendors from across the North competed for awards determined by a panel of judges and festival attendees. Cookie's Cupcakes of Otis, Massachusetts, won Most Creative and Overall Best, both voted by the judges. Sweet Birch Coffee Roasters and Bakery of Wallingford, Vermont won the People's Choice Award. Dream Maker Bakers broke the World's Largest Whoopie Pie record. Megan Wagner's team created a whoopie pie weighing about 120 pounds more than
the previous record. Their massive whoopie pie weighed a whopping 1,187 pounds! Maine has us on its radar and the previous record holder has said their bakery will challenge Megan and create an even larger whoopie pie. The MINT Makerspace held their first Soap Box Derby during the event. Come Alive Outside hosted the Green Street on Merchants Row. The Red Trouser Show performed on Center Street and Merchants Row. There was face painting, caricature artists, a stilt walker, Tom Joyce the magician, and more entertainment! Thank you to all of our sponsors and volunteers who made this day possible. A special thank you goes to our Premerie Sponsor, Casella Waste
Systems. Check out this video of the day created by PEG-TV → Here is a funny article from Maine announcing they have lost their title to Vermont →

The MINT's Soap Box Derby at The Whoopie Pie Festival on Center St in Downtown Rutland.
WOW! That was fun! On 9/14 we teamed up with the Whoopie Pie Festival in downtown Rutland to host our first annual Soap Box Derby. We are tremendously grateful for the community that showed up to support us in various ways. It is just another shining example of how lucky we are to live here among caring, fun people who support each other! Seven teams from local businesses built out soap box cars and raced them down Center Street. Every single car was a masterpiece, and we were blown away by all the work those teams did! Our fastest car was “The Soil Streaker” built by Foley Services. The Judges chose Weston Theater Company’s incredible ode to The Woman in Black to win overall. The prize for Most Creative went to
Maverick Construction for a delicious looking gingerbread house (car?) complete with the whole family of gingerbread people! The team from Come Alive Outside and Heritage Family Credit Union encountered some challenges but still managed to make some speedy runs down the hill! They earned the “Epic Fail” prize for perseverance. Our prizes were generously provided by The Paramount Theater, Bowlerama and The Village Snack Bar. We would also like to thank Forest Immel for taking incredible photos of the event! We would like to celebrate all of our participants and sponsors-in no particular order- for a great day! If you missed us this weekend, it is not too late! We are having a MINT-acular celebration on October 12th and would love to have you join us! Please see below for some upcoming classes to keep you inspired:
