Appropriate storage and usage of service-issued devices

It is important that all services have processes in place to ensure the appropriate storage and usage of service-issued devices. The Education Standards Board (ESB) has recently identified several cases where service-issued devices were located in areas that are not considered appropriate, such as bathrooms for the purpose of recording nappy change information.

In these instances, the ESB has considered this to pose an immediate risk to the safety and wellbeing of children, due to the risk of individuals taking images or recording videos for inappropriate purposes.

The Guidelines for the National Model Code support Approved Providers and their services to implement child safe practices regarding the use of electronic devices for taking images or videos of children while providing education and care. The guidelines increase awareness of child safety risks and considerations in using electronic devices in early childhood and care settings.

Approved Providers are encouraged to review existing practices and ensure that all service-issued devices are stored appropriately, ensuring the protection of children’s dignity and rights.
