Kia ora,It’s been a while since you have received any updates about the Online Gambling Implementation programme. This is because the New Zealand Select Committee process is currently underway on the Online Casino Gambling Bill. See more on the New Zealand Parliament website. The Select Committee process continuesFor those who are unfamiliar with this process, Select Committees provide the opportunity for the public, organisations and experts to provide feedback on Bills (a proposed law) making their way through the parliamentary process. During this process we are unable to engage with stakeholders and potential submitters on the Bill. Submissions are now closed for the Online Casino Gambling Bill. The next step is for the committee to prepare a report on the Bill for Parliament to consider, including recommending any changes to the Bill. We are unable to share any specific updates until this process is complete. IAGR2025 in Toronto, CanadaI’m really excited to share that myself, and Vicki Scott, the Director of Gambling at DIA will be attending the International Association of Gambling Regulators (IAGR) in Toronto, Canada next week. We have been working closely with international regulators this year to develop our approach to establish a regulated online casino gambling environment. It will be great to finally meet our regulatory counterparts in person and continue to strengthen relationships and share knowledge. Several gambling operators and industry leaders have reached out to meet with us while attending the conference in Toronto. Due to the probity measures we have put in place to protect the fairness and integrity of the competitive licensing process, we are unable to meet with any online casino operators or industry leaders to discuss (or be perceived to discuss) any aspects of the programme. We would be happy to do introductions in person at the conference, so please come and say hello, but I want to reiterate that we won’t be able to discuss any aspects of the programme in line with probity measures in place. Thanks for understanding and we look forward to being able to share further information about the programme once the Select Committee process is complete. Ngā mihi nui,
