Wharton High School Data Science Competition: Basketball Tournament Predictions

Get ready to bring your data science game to the court!

Wharton Sports Analytics and Business Initiative and Wharton Global Youth invite you to participate in the second annual Wharton High School Data Science Competition.

Using team-level box score data from an entire regular season of women’s college basketball, teams of high school students will determine rankings and predict winning percentages for postseason play.

Key Details:

  • Who: High school students (ages 14–18)
  • Teams: 3-5 students from the same school + 1 advisor
  • What: Analyze team-level data to rank teams and predict winning percentages
  • Cost: Free
  • When:
    • Registration Opens: January 6, 9:00 AM EST
    • Registration Closes: January 31, 9:00 AM EST
    • Data Released: February 3, 9:00 AM EST
    • Virtual Finals: April 9, 3:00 PM EST
