The Business Wodonga Connection October 7th , 2022 No images? Click here Message from CEOHello Members, Another wet week but at least tomorrow sunshine is predicted for one day at least. This week I wrote to the Water- Minister, The Hon. Harriet Shing, asking the Victorian Government to feedback to their partners in the Murray Darling Basin Authority, the NSW, SA & Australian Governments on the legislated dictum requiring that the Hume Dam be filled to 99% before anything more than “normal” flows are released downstream. This rule seems to make it very difficult to mitigate against future flooding, especially when larger than normal inflows are expected from upstream. Although there is more rain predicted and the Dart is 101% full, it is somewhat comforting to know that the Hume is as of October 5, down to 94% of capacity, with inflows of 29 GL/day and outflows of 47GL/day. Hopefully this management strategy gives the MDBA more capability to prevent worse riverine flooding over coming weeks than we are already seeing. Last week I met one-one-one with Jaala Pulford, Minister for Employment, Innovation, Medical Research, Small Business, Digital Economy, and Medical Research. Minister Pulford was in town for a Jobs Victoria Jobs Forum, which I know quite a few of our Members attended. This was more than a talk fest and the panel discussion, comprising local people, was excellent and informative. Positive ideas came from it in being innovative in endeavoring to help solve our current worker shortfalls. The meeting was a good opportunity for me to update the Minister, not only on the issues and challenges that many of you face day to day, but also share with her the positive outcomes that many of you are achieving and ensuring Wodonga is noticed by Spring Street. Development Victoria are asking for nominations from people to join a Community Reference Group on the Junction Place Development. I have nominated myself to be a business community representative on this reference group but anyone of you that meets the criteria are of course also able to put yourselves forward. It is vitally important that business owners in Wodonga are represented on this Group. Development Victoria are also seeking someone to be an Independent Chair of this Group. Enough words from me for this week. Enjoy tomorrow’s sunshine! -Graham Upcoming EventsGrant Writing for BeginnersCurious to know about grants and if you can get one for your business or your community activity? Member SpotlightDarren and Ellen Sampson started this small business in August 2015 for their passion of Laser and Aesthetics as well as their passion for helping people and providing quality, educated and friendly services. Border Medical Laser and Aesthetics ensures that our team is correctly qualified, certified, educated and also involved in continued professional development so we can provide patients a thorough, safe, multifaceted and educated treatment. For some time, both Darren and Ellen knew their passion, skill and drive would see them start a business that mirrored this vision. This idea then attracted our team, comprising of Dr Elizabeth Onley (General Practitioner) and Registered Nurse Kellie Jackson. They too share the same passions for quality service, good customer relationships and also agree that continued education, training and development, transparency and quality therapy for our customers is the ultimate driver of a successful business. 3B/68 Elgin Boulevard Allison's Business Blog![]() Hi all, I hope you all have been keeping well ….
