Guest Blog: Greenwich+Docklands International Festival Goes Diesel-Free

In this guest blog, Ellie Harris, Executive Producer of the Greenwich+Docklands International Festival (GDIF), shares the festival’s journey to reduce carbon emissions year-on-year.
In 2024, GDIF focused on energy efficiency and green power management, resulting in a 64.75% reduction in emissions (equivalent to 172.04 tonnes of carbon) and the elimination of diesel generators from the multi-venue, 16-day event. In her blog, Ellie shares the challenges they faced and how a consistent, step-by-step approach to data collection was instrumental in their groundbreaking success. Read the blog HERE>>

Vision for Sustainable Events attends Parliament to share sector progress with mps
|

This Thursday, 17th July, Andrew Lansley attended the APPG for Music to update MPs on the progress being made in the sector on environmental strategy and performance. He presented the success of the Green Events Code of Practice, following the pilot with 10 local authorities in 2024, and the work underway with 25 authorities in 2025 to explore national adoption. He also updated MPs on the sector work through the Show Must Go On to develop benchmarks, and a climate transition plan, due to be launched in November. Green Events Code of Practice shortlisted for 2025 Music Cities Award

The Music Cities Awards celebrate innovative projects from around the globe that use the transformational power of music to improve communities. The Green Events Code of Practice program, run by Julie’s Bicycle and Vision for Sustainable Events, is one of three projects nominated for the ‘Best Initiative Using Music to Support Environmental Sustainability’. Bakers Basco Calls on Outdoor Events to Keep Equipment Out of Landfill
|

|
Bakers Basco, with support from the Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) and the outdoor events industry, has recovered nearly 50,000 plastic bread baskets and dollies from outdoor events since 2022. This successful 3-year campaign will continue in 2025 to prevent baskets from ending up as waste in the environment and reduce the emissions associated with re-manufacturing.

Fund Project Salt Run: Campaign to raise 1 million for Climate Action

In October 2025, Hannah Cox, Director of Sustainable Impact Agency betternotstop, Founder of the Better Business Network and Vision for Sustainable Events Forum Member, a first-time ultrarunner and purpose-led entrepreneur, sets off on Project Salt Run: running 100 marathons in 100 days across India to raise £1 million for 1% for the Planet and Climate Action.
Project Salt Run will span the length of The Inland Customs Line, a forgotten colonial border, to expose the economic system still driving inequality and environmental destruction today. Visit the crowdfunder and donate to support the project HERE>>
