Seeking More Whoopie Pie Bakers
We need more whoopie pie bakers for the Third Annual Whoopie Pie Festival in Downtown Rutland, hosted by the Chamber & Economic Development of the Rutland Region, on Saturday, September 14, 2024. About 5,000 attended the event in 2023. This year, the Vermont State Tourism Department is featuring our festival as a Vermont Signature Event, which increases the coverage and marketing of our event. Because of this, we are preparing to host over 6,000 attendees. One preparation is seeking more whoopie pie bakers. As a baker, you will be paid $750 to provide 250 whoopie pies (3 inches or larger) quartered for sampling. Your payment will be made on the day of the event. In addition to the samples, you can sell other whoopie pies and
baked goods. Many bakers last year sold full-sized whoopie pies, cookies, cupcakes, and more! If you have questions, contact Lori Pinkowski at lori@rutlandeconomy.com or visit the link below to learn more. Register as a baker →

Small Business Owners' Retirement Survey
The Vermont Employee Ownership Center is a proud partner of The Northeast Transition Initiative (NETI), a partnership of organizations across the Northeast. Its common goal is to preserve as many of the roughly 200,000 small businesses as possible, throughout New England and New York State. There is a focus on businesses whose owners are looking to retire within the next few years. This great and pressing challenge demands
collaboration among multiple organizations and lenders with particular and locally-rooted expertise as well as a shared mission for expanding the adoption of employee ownership to meet this moment. One piece of this shared effort is to better understand how business owners are preparing for retirement and which succession options they are considering, with the intent of improving the resources and information the partner organizations offer to small business owners. To that end, NETI is deploying a survey for business owners in order to better understand the potential economic impact of this ongoing wave of retiring business owners (sometimes referred to as the Silver Tsunami). The information gathered in the survey will also be shared with service providers, civic leaders,
and policymakers so our economic leaders can better understand both the challenges ahead of us and the solutions at hand. You can fill out and share the survey by clicking here. It is designed to take less than 10 minutes of your time to complete, and all responses will be confidential. Only anonymized data will be shared publicly. Take the survey here →
