2024 Paul W. Seavey Lecture

Despite rainy skies, the 2024 Paul W. Seavey Lectureship in General Internal Medicine attracted a crowd to see President of Spelman College Helene Gayle, MD, PH, in conversation with James W. Curran Dean of Public Health M. Danielle Fallin, PhD.

41st Annual ENRICH Healthcare Communication Course May 30 - June 2, 2024

Westin Peachtree Plaza

The 41st annual ENRICH Healthcare Communication Course will provide attendees the unique opportunity to advance their communication skills alongside like-minded colleagues and communication education experts in an intensive, learner-centered environment. ENRICH joins together healthcare professionals with a common goal of improved relationship-centered communication. Skilled ACH Faculty establish inclusive small group environments and provide constructive feedback on participants' skills.

Presented by the Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology and Emory SOM. This course is designed to give medical providers and other members of the multi-disciplinary health care team basic and cutting-edge knowledge for optimizing the delivery of services to the expanding older adult population. Grady Liver Clinic Update

In March, Liver Clinic faculty Dr. Lesley Miller and Dr. Shelly Fluker served as Co-Directors of the 2024 Georgia Department of Public Health Hepatitis C Training, held at the DeKalb Co. Board of Health. Liver Clinic/Grady GIM faculty Dr. Sarah Koumtouzoua, Dr. Jennifer Lom, and Dr. Natasha Travis were speakers at the event which was attended by 70 people virtually and in person and was a great success!

Liver Clinic faculty also recently completed the first pilot study in the US of a point-of-care HCV RNA testing device and they are currently participating in a multisite study evaluating the device which will inform its FDA approval.

 

Lifestyle Medicine Residency Curriculum

 

 

Interested in Lifestyle Medicine? A new Lifestyle Medicine Curriculum allows physicians and residents to become board-eligible in Lifestyle Medicine. Anyone who is interested in enrolling should contact Dr. Caroline Collins.

Need project funding support?

  • Faculty can apply for up to $1000 for project support
  • Funds will be distributed on a rolling basis
  • Applications will be reviewed monthly
  • To access the application, click here

Need a Master of Public Health student assistant?

  • MPH students can be very helpful on research projects as they bring skills they are learning in their program
  • MPH students are allowed to work up to 20 hours a week as long as the work fulfills one of their MPH program competencies
  • The application form will ask you what specific tasks you are looking for the student to do and which competencies the work will fulfill. Once approved we will work with you to post your position on the MPH student website.
  • If you have any questions regarding the form, please contact saria.hassan@emory.edu
  • Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis monthly
  • Please note that many students are looking now for Spring semester employment so the sooner you get your request in and approved the larger the pool of students you will have to choose from.
  • If you are interested in having an MPH student work with you to support a project, please complete the application form here

Does my study need IRB review?

Given much of the confusion around this topic after the November meeting, we have worked with the IRB to generate a step-by-step guide to help you answer this question. Please review the PowerPoint here which hopefully makes things somewhat more clear!
