A decade in the making – $34 million committed to research

We are excited and proud to announce that in the 2022-23 financial year, we are committing a further $5 million to neurological research. This new contribution means MSWA has contributed over $34 million to local, national and international research over the last decade.

“I am delighted to continue our funding of neurological research including WA research projects which we believe will lead to finding the cause, better treatments, and hopefully one day, a cure for many neurological conditions,” MSWA CEO Melanie Kiely said of the announcement.

“We truly can’t thank you, our supporters enough for continuing to trust us to support people with neurological conditions, and fund vital research not only here in Western Australia, but nationally and internationally too.”

MSWA Clients share in winners’ joy

We are well into our Mega Home Lottery campaign, with two special guests called in to perform a special role – drawing and contacting our Super Early Bird and Early Bird Winners!

MSWA Client and supporter Julia Hewson changed Anouska’s life with the press of a button, drawing her ticket to win the $1.4m Bremer Bay home! Having just been made redundant from her job, the timing could not have been better for Anouska and her family.

“It's always nice to dream you would win, but I never thought I would. [I bought the ticket] just to support the cause,” Anouska said.

“Grab a ticket now, grab two! Someone has to win; you may as well be in it to win it.”

Jasmin Franklin: The Bigger Picture

“The good thing about not knowing what’s going to happen next is that I can be hopeful.

“I’m grateful for every day that I’m alive. I’m blessed to wake up each day and open my eyes.”

44-year-old Jasmin Franklin was born with a rare condition called Klippel-Feil Syndrome. Remarkably, the diagnosis took 40 years to be found.

Watch Jasmin's incredible story and hear how MSWA’s Outreach staff supported her to continue creating award-winning art.

Who will win this year’s Stationary Cycle Challenge?

A fierce competition for bragging rights is heating up in gyms across MSWA, as almost 200 Clients clock up kilometres for the 2022 Stationary Cycle Challenge.

The challenge is an annual event that coincides with the Ocean Ride, allowing Clients to join in the fun on stationary bikes as part of their exercise programs.

Supported by our Physiotherapy teams across WA, riders have their kilometres tracked and added to their Outreach team total.

Only one Outreach team can be the winner, with Albany taking home the coveted shield in 2021, followed closely by Rockingham.

With just under three weeks to go, our riders have collectively recorded more than 3000kms, raising over $950 in the process – a huge effort!

Topping the leader board for highest individual kilometres so far is Rockingham’s Sharon Lamont on 250km, the equivalent distance of cycling from Perth to Dunsborough!

Get involved by sponsoring an individual or entire Outreach team through the link below.
