Message from the Director

This year, we are launching the Annual Review of Progress one month earlier than usual as we are preparing for the transition to Adelaide University. This means that the Annual Review also closes one month early and must be completed by the 30 September. As you know, the Annual Review is an essential milestone in your research degree journey, assessing both the quality and quantity of work that you have completed so far, ensuring that you are on track for timely thesis submission. It also helps uncover any

issues that may be impeding your progress, so that these can be addressed promptly, and it is an opportunity together with your supervisory panel to set clear, achievable goals for the next project stage and to plan your ongoing skills development. You can find more details, key requirements and FAQs on our website. We will also be holding a special Annual Review Webinar on the 29 July.

Regards,

Dr Doreen Krumbiegel, PhD MBA

Tip of the Month

With the upcoming transition to Adelaide University we recommend that students sit down with their supervisors and and carefully plan for the rest of 2025 and early 2026.  Think about the tasks and resources you will need and update your Gantt Chart.  Ensure you are up to date with your milestones and consider completing them early where possible.  Information about transition to Adelaide University will feature in this newsletter as it becomes available.

Celebrating Culture and Creativity: Indigenous Art Therapy Workshop

On 8 July, we were thrilled to welcome HDR students to a truly special event — the Indigenous Art Therapy Workshop, supported by Student Wellbeing and delivered by the team at Marra Dreaming.

Huge thanks to all our incredible HDR students who joined us for a morning of storytelling, creativity, and cultural connection.

Together, we celebrated Aboriginal culture through:

    • Basket weaving using traditional methods
    • Dot painting keepsakes to take home
    • Exploration of Aboriginal cultural artefacts
    • Contributing to a collaborative canvas – soon to be proudly displayed in the AGRS office

It was a beautiful and reflective session that brought students together in the spirit of respect, learning, and shared experience.

Stay tuned for more wellbeing-focused workshops and cultural events coming soon.

HREC Delays and Changes to Submission Deadlines

The University Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) is currently receiving a high volume of applications. In the event that the HREC are over-capacity for a meeting, applications may need to be deferred to the following meeting or be referred to an external HREC. To help manage this demand, submission deadlines have been moved forward by one business day. Researchers are encouraged to submit early to avoid delays and ensure their application is considered at their preferred meeting. Please check the website for updated deadlines and submission guidance.

    AGRS Travel Grants

The Adelaide Graduate Research School is offering Travel Grants again! The second round for 2025 is now open for submissions and will close on the 3rd of August for HDR students travelling from early August in 2025.

Please carefully read the eligibility criteria and travel grant rules available on the Find a Scholarship page before applying. With the limited budget available, you are also highly encouraged to apply for other travel grant opportunities to fund your travel.  Applications can be submitted via the Career’s Hub website.
