Results are in- Halloween Hill Climb!

October had it's own trick in store when early in the week it dumped several feet of fresh snow. The annual Hill Climb that generally takes place at Diamond Peak would only be accomplished if we traded our trail shoes for snow shoes. But DPMR members are nothing if not resourceful so with some last-minute creativity the hills were sourced, costumes were donned and vert was scored!
Congratulations to this year's King and Queen of the Hills...

Geoff Quine: 5010 feet
Rebekah Winter: 9114 feet

Besides bragging rights Rebekah and Geoff will receive a DPMR Big Truck hat for their efforts. Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s event!

At your service- the DPMR Board of Directors

A few Saturdays ago, the DPMR Board gathered for the day to conduct a Strategic Planning workshop. Our aim was to determine our strategy and goals for the next 2-3 years, and to identify the underlying values and principles that will guide us in our decisions and activities. We spent the day talking about how we see DPMR evolving over the coming years, and what we would like to achieve.
All of that indoor brain work was rewarded with the annual Pub to Pub run on Sunday. Read on for the weekend recap by board member Steve Rowbury.

Member Highlight –
Mike Turner

Introduction by Jack Macy
"I first met Mike Turner through the Mile 99 Podcast and conversations about DPMR’s own webinar series. Once I started hearing about and following his running, it became clear to me he is an adventurer at heart – new trails, river canyons, old historic mines, backpacking trips, and 250-mile desert odysseys! But I have a feeling this banjo maker from Texas is just getting started..."

Recipe of the Month – Cowboy Cookies

Renee Elsdon Jacobs shares her recipe for a variation of Cowboy Cookies which she took on a recent big adventure – running the Yosemite High Route. "They hit they spot during the day, in the middle of the night, and pretty much every time they touched my lips. They are not too sweet, full of chunky ingredients that make them seem more like real food, and do not crumble in your pack. I wished that I had brought more." Hungry yet? Race Report: The 2021
Castle Peak 100K

Whether or not the Castle Peak 100K race was going to happen came down to a race-day decision this year. Smoke from the Dixie, Caldor and Tamarack fires burning all around the area threatened the air quality, jeopardizing the race.
Meggie Inouye woke up early on race day to learn that the race was on and on it was!
Find out what gave her inspiration and encouragement during a tough day on the trail and how the support of a community can often light the way.
