On October 25, there was a historic groundbreaking ceremony for a $285M mixed-use development at the Navy Yard. Opening in 2025, the two-building complex will include 614 residential apartments as well as extensive amenities and retail. This announcement is a major milestone in the long-term development partnership between PIDC and Ensemble / Mosaic as it will bring the first residential units to the Navy Yard since the based closed in 1996.

Scientists and Engineers from the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division gathered with university partners to pursue active engagements with existing Educational Partnership Agreements and create new relationships with local universities through new collaboration agreements.

In October, members of Cohort 10 of Philly Shipyard’s Apprentice program were celebrated for completing the first 12-weeks of the welding apprenticeship, a distinguishing accomplishment for all apprentices. This apprentice cohort also demonstrated ideal examples of PSI’s CORE values for which apprentices were celebrated for each of the values.

While contractors for Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD) are crucial to the United States Navy’s mission, they are usually not called upon to act in life-or-death situations. Still, NSWCPD contractor Joseph Anyzek displayed the poise of a seasoned Navy Sailor when he witnessed a Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command electrician’s life put into jeopardy from a severe shock while refurbishing a workspace.
