Twilight Bowls League kicked off this week Twilight Bowls starts-- Alastair McKenzie It was fantastic to see the Royal Oak Bowls logo being beamed across Sky Sports 2 and on YouTube across the globe as the broadcast of Bowls NZ's Twilight Bowls League started this week. Many of our members enjoyed their two minutes of fame as part of the crowd on TV - that's something that everyone can enjoy over the next five weeks that the League is played. It's great fun to see it live. There's a great special menu for the event as well. See you at Royal Oak next Tuesday or Wednesday! Matches will also be broadcast live on SKY Sport from 6.30 pm until 6 December - with delayed coverage available on the Bowls NZ YouTube channel. Maraetai has a devil of a time!-- Duncan Pardon Maraetai Bowling Club has been playing bowls with the devil, as well as a few vampires, skeletons and the undead. It was all part of a Halloween bowls event staged for the local community which, in turn, is part of the club’s long-term strategy to involve the community in the club’s activities. It is a way of both raising funds towards replacing the artificial green and other facilities as well as introducing the sport to a slightly different demographic. It also creates a pipeline of potential new members. Good luck David MotuDavid Motu, the youngest ever Kiwi to represent PBA NZ is competing in the Scottish International Open 2023, from 7-9 November 2023. Defending champion Stewart Anderson takes on highly touted 16-year-old David Motu. Stewart was in imperious form last season at West Lothian and he will be looking to start where he left off in the afternoon televised match. David came through the PBA New Zealand qualifier and will be making his debut in a WBT event. The match will be broadcast on the World Bowls Tour Facebook and YouTube channels. -- Source PBA NZ Bowls Auckland is seeking a Rangatahi Roll Up Activator who will play a pivotal role in promoting and growing the sport of bowls in high schools around Tāmaki Makaurau. This part-time, seasonal position primarily involves delivering structured, fun, and engaging sessions during school term one 2024, fostering relationships with teachers and promoting local clubs. For more info & to apply, click here... The prestigious World Bowls Champion of Champions Singles event will take place 25-30 November 2024 in Auckland. The 2023 event was originally scheduled to be held in New Zealand but was moved to be staged immediately after the 2023 World Championships which was also on the Gold Coast. Sports Auckland Volunteer of the MonthSports Auckland this week awarded Rod Sadgrove from Howick Bowling Club its One New Zealand Volunteer of the Month for October. He has been involved with the hiring of our premises to others. He mans the bar after bowls so our members can socialise after a day of bowls. At the time he is overseeing the erection of a covered green for our bowling club which involves an enormous amount of time paperwork and meetings. He truly is an amazing asset to our bowling club. If something has to be done, Rod will volunteer."
