Williams and Sumner to lead college’s finance and administration office

Tammy Williams, M.H.A., and Scott Sumner, M.B.A., took over leadership of the UF College of Medicine’s Finance and Administration Office Nov. 15.

The pair will apply their broad knowledge of health care, education and clinical finance to help strengthen the College of Medicine’s finance and administrative functions.

6 PA students selected as National Health Service Corps scholars

Six physician assistant students in the UF College of Medicine have been awarded prestigious federal scholarships that will cover the cost of their education in exchange for a commitment to provide care in underserved communities experiencing health professional shortages following graduation.

The National Health Service Corps provides scholarships and a loan repayment program for medical, PA, dental, nurse practitioner and nurse midwife students and graduates.

Dr. Cristina Zeretzke-Bien named pediatric emergency medicine chair for American College of Emergency Physicians

Cristina Zeretzke-Bien, M.D., FAAP, FAAEM, a clinical associate professor and assistant medical director for the pediatric emergency division, has been elected as the next chair for the Pediatric Emergency Medicine section of the American College of Emergency Physicians, or ACEP. ACEP represents more than 38,000 emergency medicine physicians, emergency medicine residents and medical students.

Recognizing Diabetes Awareness Month: Kara Goes to School

In recognition of Diabetes Awareness Month, the UF Diabetes Institute is sharing a new series of animated short videos about Type 1 diabetes called "Kara Goes to School," available in English and Spanish. The animated series is a partnership between Angelina Bernier, M.D., a clinical associate professor in the division of pediatric endocrinology and medical director of the Pediatric Metabolic & Obesity Clinic, and the nonprofit animation studio Drawn from Valor.

UF, Scripps Research green-light integration for Florida science powerhouse

UF and California-based Scripps Research have signed a definitive agreement to welcome the Florida branch of the science powerhouse into the research arm of UF’s academic health center — a step aimed at accelerating the translation of basic scientific discoveries into clinical advances that benefit human health in the state and beyond. UF and UF Health have committed to work with Scripps Florida leadership to immediately invest in the new entity by hiring additional faculty.
