Saturday evening, Euphoric Hair Experience, located at 53 Merchants Row in Downtown Rutland, had an official ribbon-cutting event. The salon's official opening is April 5, but the barbers and braiding stylists are currently booking appointments.

Business Show Tables Still Available

Come promote your business or organization to potential new customers and make important connections within the Rutland County community!

April 11, 2023, join us at the Rutland Recreation Community Center from 4:00 pm–7:00 pm. Exhibitor set-up will begin at 2:00 pm. From 4:00 pm–5:00 pm, businesses and organizations will have an opportunity to network with one another and attend a presentation by the Rutland Young Professionals. The show will open to the public at 5:00 pm.

After a 3-year absence, the Chamber & Economic Development of the Rutland Region (CEDRR) is excited to bring back its annual Business Show. Rutland Region’s largest and most comprehensive gathering of Business-to-Business and Business-to-Consumer networking. This event is sponsored by Community Health, Cape Air, M&T Bank, and Killington Resort.

Successful Tourism Day at the State House

March 22 was Tourism Day at the State House. The Chamber & Economic Development of the Rutland Region sent representation to the event and the Rutland Region was represented by multiple businesses from the Rutland Region. Amy Laramie of Killington Resort, testified to the House Committee on Commerce and Economic Development.

First Round of Community Recovery and Revitalization Program Project Applications Approved

Governor Phil Scott and the Agency of Commerce and Community Development (ACCD) announced the first round of approved grant applications for projects that spur economic recovery through the Community Recovery and Revitalization Program (CRRP). The program, being administered by the Department of Economic Development (DED), aims to strengthen communities across the state by reversing the harm caused by the COVID-19 pandemic through assistance with capital investments that will help businesses, nonprofits, and municipalities to recover, retain existing jobs, and grow the economy.

Thirty-one projects have been approved by an inter-agency committee, resulting in a proposed award amount of $10,328,196 which is expected to support $153,515,054 in total project costs. The 31 projects are expected to support 354 existing jobs and enable the creation of 205 new jobs, 79 new affordable housing units, and 196 new childcare slots for low- to moderate-income families.

Rutland Receives Downtown and Village Center Tax Incentive

Governor Phil Scott and the Agency of Commerce and Community Development (ACCD) announced over $860,000 in funding supporting rehabilitation and revitalization projects throughout Vermont’s designated downtown and village centers. These six project awards will help generate over $20 million in building improvements around the state. In addition to these awards, a new round of funding for later this year will be announced in April, with tax credits available to projects in state-designated Downtowns, Village Centers, and Neighborhood Development Areas.

56 Merchants Row, Rutland will receive $125,000 to support significant code upgrades to the Gryphon building's upper floors, creating 10 new 1-2 bedroom apartments.

Vermont APEX Accelerator has Renewed Focus on Small Business Support

The Procurement Technical Assistance Centers has a new name, APEX Accelerators. In Vermont, the center will be known as Vermont APEX Accelerator.

Vermont APEX Accelerator will continue to help expand the number of small businesses that successfully compete for and win federal, state, and local government contracts and have done so under cooperative agreements with the Defense Logistics Agency, state and local governments, and non-profit organizations. The transition includes a new name, additional reporting metrics, and new opportunities, but it does not change the center’s dedication to helping Vermont’s business community.

Vermont Produce Improvement Grant Program Accepting Applications

The Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets (VAAFM) is now accepting applications for the Vermont Produce Improvement Grant program. Produce Safety Improvement Grants (PSIG) can support the costs of implementing on-farm food safety practices to help vegetable and fruit growers transition to compliance with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule, address compliance with new Produce Safety Rule harvest and post-harvest water requirements, or meet market demands for on-farm food safety.  

Awards will range from $5,000 to $20,000. PSIG funds can be used for any of the following, but are not limited to: harvest, wash, pack, and storage supplies; wash/pack area construction or renovation; monitoring/control devices; handwashing stations; cleaning/sanitization tools; health and hygiene signage; compost/manure handling improvements; and materials and systems to improve training and record-keeping. Applicants must grow, harvest, pack, or hold “covered produce” as defined by the federal FSMA Produce Safety Rule and have average annual produce sales of greater than $29,245 over the past three years.

Career & Technical Education Scholarships Available

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust is currently accepting applications for the Bank’s Career & Technical Education Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded to income-eligible high school seniors who attended a technical career program as part of their high school curriculum and are planning to attend college or a technical school after graduation.

Students must reside in counties in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont where the Bank has a branch location. Applicants selected to receive a 2023 scholarship will be eligible to apply for an additional $1,000 scholarship in 2024 to be used for their second year of college or technical school.

The Bank established the Career & Technical Education Scholarship in 2018 and has awarded 75 scholarships to date. In 2022, a graduate of Otter Valley Union High School and attendee of Stafford Technical Center received a scholarship.

The Boiler youth programming is going strong! We are delivering Tapestry on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Rutland Intermediate School. The Rutland Middle School Bridges program is coming to The MINT weekly as well.
