In collaboration with UF/IFAS, medical students and residents in the College of Medicine recently traveled to rural Wimauma, Florida, near Tampa, to provide free health screenings and nutritional information to dozens of underserved farmworkers.
Norman Beatty, M.D., an assistant professor of medicine in the division of infectious diseases and global medicine, said mobile clinics can reduce health care disparities among populations that are less likely to have regular health check-ups.
“Our plan is to continue to offer these health fairs throughout Florida where we are needed the most," Beatty said. "Partnering with UF/IFAS, we hope to reach these underserved communities."
