The Childhood We're CreatingGrowing Up Together in a Digital World Welcome to Meee Moments #86 This month, we're exploring a question that affects every parent, grandparent, teacher, employer, policymaker, and community. What kind of childhood are we creating? Inspired by the conversations in Toy Story 5 and by the remarkable parents we've welcomed onto the Just Meee Podcast, this edition explores how technology, social media, and the digital world are reshaping childhood, and what we can all do to help. This isn't about rejecting technology. It's about rediscovering balance. About creating more time to play, to talk, to listen, to imagine, and simply to be together. Because childhood shapes the adults we become. And the childhood we're creating today will shape the society we live in tomorrow.
#71 Lisa Kenevan – Isaac's Legacy: Every Child Deserves to Be Safe Some conversations are difficult to have, but they are often the ones we need most. In this deeply moving episode of the Just Meee Podcast, Lisa Kenevan shares the story of her son, Isaac, and how unimaginable loss has become a powerful force for change. This is more than a conversation about social media. It's about listening to our children, trusting our instincts, and creating a world where young people can grow up safely. Perhaps the most important question Lisa leaves us with is one we can all reflect on: How do we create a world where children are free to simply be children? Thank you, Lisa, for your honesty, your strength, and for ensuring Isaac's legacy will help protect generations to come. ❤️ If you need help or support please let us know: help@meee.global
Growing Up Together I recently finished 10 to 25: The Science of Motivating Young People by David Yeager, and I think it's one of the most important books every parent, teacher, coach, and employer could read. One of the biggest lessons is surprisingly simple: young people don't respond well to being controlled, they respond to being respected. Instead of asking, "How do I get them to do what I want?" Yeager encourages us to ask, "How can I help them become the person they want to be?" A few ideas that really stood out: • Be curious before being critical. Ask questions before offering advice. • Listen to understand, not simply to respond. Feeling heard builds trust. • Give young people purpose, not just instructions. They are far more motivated when they understand why something matters. Perhaps the greatest insight is that every conversation is an opportunity to help a young person feel capable, valued, and trusted. As we explore The Childhood We're Creating, maybe the question isn't, "What's wrong with young people?" Perhaps it's, "How can we become the adults they need us to be?" We'd love to hear your thoughts.
The NHS. But not as we know it! Summer is here. The days are longer, the evenings are warmer, and perhaps there's never been a better time to unplug from our digital world and reconnect with the natural one. At Meee, we call it The NHS – The Natural Health Service. Nature has an extraordinary way of slowing us down, lifting our mood, sparking curiosity, and bringing us together. One of my favourite chapters from Meee in a Family Minute is called Be a Tourist Every Day. So often we travel hundreds of miles to admire somewhere new, yet rarely notice the beauty that's right on our own doorstep. This summer, why not become a tourist in your own town, village, or neighbourhood? Walk a different route. You don't have to go far to have an adventure. Sometimes the greatest discoveries are only a few steps from home. Because the greatest playground ever created wasn't built by people. It was already here. We'd love to hear about your family's adventures.
100 Summer Memories What if this summer wasn't measured by screen time, but by story time? As parents, grandparents, families, and communities, we have an incredible opportunity to help create the childhood our children will remember, not through expensive days out, but through simple moments together. Become a Nature Detective. See who can spot five birds, discover something they've never noticed before, or listen for five different sounds. Try One Photo. One Story. Each person takes just one photograph during the day, then shares why they chose it. One picture can spark a lifetime of conversation. Go on a Wonder Walk. Every few minutes, ask a question beginning with, "I wonder..." Curiosity has a wonderful way of turning an ordinary walk into an extraordinary adventure. And why not create 100 Summer Memories? Because children rarely remember the hours they spent on a screen. They remember how they felt. And perhaps that's the childhood we're all trying to create. We'd love to hear about your family's favourite summer memory. 📩 we@meee.global
One Minute Can Change Everything Childhood isn't built in grand gestures. It's built in the small moments we often overlook. A conversation on the way to school. A walk together after dinner. A question asked with genuine curiosity. A few minutes of reflection before the day begins. The My Meee app was created to help you notice those moments. With daily reflections, mood check-ins, journalling, values, and thoughtful prompts, it encourages you to slow down, understand yourself a little better, and create meaningful conversations with the people who matter most. Because the childhood we're creating isn't shaped by one extraordinary day. It's shaped by the ordinary moments we choose to make extraordinary. This month, take just one minute each day to Pause, Reflect, Connect, Listen, Wonder. Because sometimes the smallest moments become the biggest memories. Let the My Meee app help you create a childhood, and a life, worth remembering. |
