REGISTRATION IS OPEN! Global Immersions are short study trips embedded into an international business-oriented course that allow students a chance to experience global business in-person rather than simply learning about it in the classroom. Learn more about each destination below. Also, save the date to attend the Global Immersion Fair on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 4 – 6 PM | Alter Hall Undergraduate Commons IB 2509: Destination GHANA January 2 – January 12, 2024 Since small businesses account for 92% of all business in Ghana, students with an interest in micro-financing, fintech, international business and sustainability will find this course to be a unique opportunity. Explore companies based in Ghana and learn how policies have spurned inclusive economic growth in supply chain efforts and sustainability models. Discover why Ghana is 2nd in the world in the production of cocoa, second only to the adjacent country of Côte d'Ivoire. Students will learn how the countries work together to build resilient landscapes and sustainable systems using technology to produce 60% of the world's global supply of cocoa. IB 2509: Destination LONDON March 2 – March 10, 2024 This immersion provides a unique opportunity for students interested in economics, politics, and social influences to learn more about how political and economic factors play a role in setting policies and impact the laws. Law is an integral part of everyday life and influences a multitude of business decisions and transactions. English common law was created more than 900 years ago and has had a significant influence in the development of legal systems here in the United States and many countries around the world. In fact, British law is the preferred law for business transactions worldwide. This immersion will expose students to not only the history of the law, but how it is influenced by a host country’s political interest. IB 2509: Destination JAPAN May 11 – May 19, 2024 Students interested in international business, sport management, East Asian studies, and the economics of sport will find value in this course. The phrase wakon yosai – “Japanese spirit, Western technique” – has long been used to describe the business practices that led to the rise of modern Japan. Yet the same philosophy can be applied to sport in Japan. From the business models of teams to the behavior of fans, Japanese sports have their own unique character. This course will explore the economic, business and cultural underpinnings of a variety of sports in Japan. All Global Immersions are tied to IB 2509, a 3-credit elective course. Students will be responsible for tuition associated with the course plus the $3,500 International Programs Fee. The International Programs Fee of $3,500 includes round-trip international airfare, hotel accommodations (double occupancy), in-country transportation, corporate visits, cultural activities and some meals. |
