Division of Hospital Medicine gives back this holiday season DOM's Division of Hospital Medicine recently hosted a volunteer event at the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Our staff, along with other local volunteers, processed over 7,600 pounds of food! Organizer of the event, Lakshmi Katta, MD, shares the following on why these outings are an important part of our work in the DOM. "My hope for the event was to strengthen our sense of community within our division and Atlanta. I believe community and a sense of belonging are one of many antidotes to burnout and provider well-being. This volunteering event felt like a natural fit with the benefit of being able to give back to the community. Folks said they had fun and are looking forward to future events. Hopefully, we can continue this as an annual tradition!" Grady Memorial Team named T1D Exchange QI Collaborative 2024 Award Recipients Congratulations to Grady Memorial Hospital Team T1D Exchange Quality Improvement Collaborative (T1DX-QI) on being selected as the recipient of the 2024 T1D Exchange Outstanding Adult Team Award. The T1DX-QI brings together 62 clinics across the United States that care for over 100,000 individuals with type 1 diabetes. T1DX-QI members share data via the T1D Quality Improvement platform to track baselines and outcomes and measurably improve the lives of individuals with type 1 diabetes. Our Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Lipids colleagues Sonya Haw, MD, Francisco Pasquel, MD, David Ziemer, MD, and Georgia Davis, MD, work on this initiative with support from Grady clinical staff. Division of Rheumatology represents Emory at ACR Convergence Our Division of Rheumatology colleagues recently attended the 2024 American College of Rheumatology (ACR) Converge Annual Meeting, the world's premier annual rheumatology event, held this year in Washington, D.C. Annette Esper, MD, shares insights with LiveNOW from FOX.Annette Esper, MD, (Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine) recently was interviewed on LiveNOW from FOX, where she spoke about over the counter combination tests for flu and COVID-19. These tests can be taken at home and cut out the need for doctor or urgent care visits. Researchers at Emory University, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Georgia Institute of Technology and Grady Health System have played a pivotal role in evaluating these combination tests through the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADx) and Independent Test Assessment Programs (ITAP), which select and test the most promising diagnostic tools and then help them move quickly through the development, approval and commercialization pipeline.
