October 2024 ProteinMB Associate e-News

ProteinMB is a voice and hub for sustainable protein. We work with the sector to implement the collaborative Manitoba Protein Advantage (MPA) Strategy Action Framework.

The ProteinMB Associate E-News is your go-to source for Industry Updates and Trends, ProteinMB Engagement Opportunities, Event Listings, Funding Opportunities, Resources and updates on the implementation of the Manitoba Protein Advantage (MPA) Action Framework.

Hello ProteinMB Associate,

ProteinMB is expanding, and we are thrilled to have Mackenzie Booker join the team as a Program Facilitator.

New this month is an Associate Showcase section of the e-newsletter where we will be highlighting the work of our Associates in implementing the Manitoba Protein Advantage Action Framework. This month we have featured Farm Credit Canada (FCC). FCC and ProteinMB collaborate in the strategic areas of Finance, Sustainable Protein the Industry, and Working Together.

We held our October Sustainable Protein Consortium meeting at Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation where we engaged consortium members in a discussion about the opportunities for protein by-products. There is still opportunity for food processors to join this exciting new initiative. Please contact ProteinMB if you are interested and would like more information.

Over the past month our team has engaged with the protein ecosystem through participation in meetings, events and engagements, including participation at the Bridge2Food conference, CAPI conference, Norway House Economic Development Conference, BAM AGM and a discovery meeting with Manitoba Forage and Grasslands Association to identify opportunities for collaboration to advance sustainable protein in Manitoba.

In November I am looking forward to working together through new engagement pathways, including Innovation and By-Products Roundtables, the November Sustainable Protein Consortium meeting taking place at Roquette focused on technology, and the launch of a new ProteinMB video.

Thank you for being a part of ProteinMB. Together, we’re driving the future of sustainable protein.

Best,

Jillian Einarson
Managing Director

Manitoba’s Sustainable Protein Advantage strategy is comprised of Ten Strategic Areas of Sustainable Protein. These areas were developed as the Sustainable Protein Impact Map: A Collaborative Action Framework, which provides the strategic direction in how we will meet the industry’s ultimate goal.

Sustainable Protein: The Industry (SP)

ProteinMB’s Sustainable Protein Consortium of Food Processors held its October meeting at Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation (FFMC), focusing on the topic of by-products. Members toured FFMC, shared insights on by-product opportunities within their organizations, engaged in a presentation by Veolia on anaerobic digestion, and provided feedback on Manitoba Agriculture’s By-Product Directory.

Manitoba Agriculture recently developed and launched several new resources to support the industry:

  • Manitoba Agriculture By-Product Directory App

  • Bioproduct and Service Finder App

  • Co-packer Service Finder App

  • Business Pathways Website

  • Food Ingredient and Product Directory (XLS).
