Bay of Plenty shines bright at OctagonalIn a jubilant display of skill and sportsmanship, Howick Bowling Club once more set the stage for the exciting Premier Development Octagonal, drawing emerging talent from across the North Island for its highly anticipated second year. Amidst the cheers and camaraderie, eight Centres, including new contenders from Wellington and Hawke's Bay, joined the challenge alongside teams from Auckland, Northland, North Harbour, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, and Counties Manukau to transform the greens – all vying for the coveted title! Premier's spirited performanceIn a whirlwind of victories and challenges, the Premier Men kicked off the National Intercentre with a rollercoaster Friday, triumphing in the first round only to face disappointment in the second. However, Saturday marked a remarkable turnaround as they secured victories in both games, propelling them into the quarterfinals against Dunedin on Sunday morning. Avondale Bowling Club legacy honoured!The Avondale Fund Committee is thrilled to announce that applications for the newly established Avondale Fund are officially open. This means that ten eligible clubs can now tap into this invaluable resource. But fear not if your club isn't on the list! The Rawhiti Fund continues to operate alongside the Avondale Fund, ensuring all clubs can access funding - directly from Bowls Auckland or via Blue Waters Community Trust Victorious vibes for Carlton CornwallThe future of bowls shone brightly as emerging talents clashed amidst intense competition as the 2024 Auckland 1-5 Year Interclub unfolded. With 21 sides vying for supremacy, the stage was set for a showdown of epic proportions. The reigning champs, the Howick Sharks, unexpectedly bowed out early. At Papatoetoe Hunters Corner, Carlton Cornwall showcased their mettle on a gripping Sunday of post-section play overcoming the Mount Albert Lions encounter with two games to one in the first round, they set the tone for their eventual triumph. Bowling brilliance & BBQ blissPat Walsh Memorial Tournament at Bridge Park was a huge success! Tournament winners were Des Fisher, Gail Clark and Les McFarlane (pictured below). The main purpose of the tournament was to raise money for Māori Youth Sports Scholarships. After play over $3500 in scholarships were handed out to promising young Māori sporting talent including Auckland’s own Ryan Hill. Throughout the series, teams showcased their creativity and enthusiasm, especially during the final week where the fancy dress theme added an extra layer of excitement. The costumes were nothing short of fabulous, reflecting the spirit and fun-loving nature of our bowling community. The overall winners of the series are the talented members of Bowl You Over, and in second place, is Bowled Over. Due to popular demand a Winter series is already in the works.
