This includes exploring opportunities outside academia and having a backup plan, as well as developing the kinds of skills that will increase your future job prospects. Self-awareness is also key to improving your chances of career success, which is discussed in a recent article from Inside Higher Ed, The Need for Self-Knowledge in a Changing World of Work. The piece discusses what you have to gain from self-exploration and tips and resources to get started on the path of knowing thyself better. CaRST encourages HDRs to initiate career planning early in candidature. In CaRST Online, HDRs select a main and alternative career path from a list of STEM and non-STEM options curated from Imagine PhD and myIDP, which are two excellent career development resources for social sciences and humanities PhDs and STEM PhDs, respectively. These and other helpful links are also available on the CaRST website. Finally, if you’ve registered for the 2021 3MT, video submissions are due to your Faculty coordinators this Friday, 16 July by 5pm.
