Things Just Got Brighter at Hutchins Athletic Field!
Installation has been completed on upgraded LED lighting at Hutchins Athletic Field. Thanks to the 2022 Energy Efficiency Program for Small Public Facilities Incentive from ComEd and Special Discount from LEDCO America Inc., the Park District only had to pay $391 for these new and more energy efficient lights. With an installed cost of over $8,600, that’s a serious incentive! Thanks to Lake County Rugby Club, who originally purchased and installed the original lights many years ago. They served the district well!
Thank you to everyone that participated in our Touch A Truck event on June 3rd - making it a huge success! We can't wait to do it again next year, with even more trucks! Lake County Sheriff's Department

ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY - June 4thThe Grandwood Park Park District participates in the Adopt-a-Highway program and is responsible for Hutchins Road. The commitment is to conduct 2 clean-ups each year, and the first clean-up of 2022 was done on June 4th. The day started off with donuts and a short orientation. It took almost 2 hours to complete the clean-up and luckily the rain held off until afterwards! THANK YOU TO THE AWESOME FOLKS THAT VOLUNTEERED THEIR TIME TO HELP!!
Warren Township Highway Department
The Warren Township Road District is run by Highway Commissioner, Amy Sarver. The Department currently maintains 70 miles of unincorporated roadways within Warren Township. The Road District’s duties include - asphalt patching & resurfacing, basin maintenance, culvert jetting, litter pickup, roadside mowing, right-of-way permits, shoulder gravel, sidewalk repair/replacement, storm sewer work, traffic control, tree trimming & removal, winter snow and ice control. In additional to maintaining the roadways and infrastructure, we offer numerous programs and services to all of the road district
residents - 1) Brush Removal Service - Performed all year long, weather permitting. 2) Mulch Program - The Road District delivers and offers FREE mulch to all Warren Township Road District residents. Residents are also welcome to come and pick up mulch between 7:00 am & 3:00 pm, Monday thru Friday. Mulch delivering usually starts in the spring. 3) Leaf
Collection Program – Each fall, leaves are collected by Waste Management for six consecutive weeks. In some cases, we will assist Waste Management. In the spring of each year, the Road District does a leaf collection for four weeks with our leaf vacuum. The start time is determined by the weather conditions. 4) Mosquito Abatement – Warren Township schedules four to five mosquito abatement sprays via Clarke Environmental. Sprays are usually preceded with a call out to all
residents that are registered with Blackboard Connect. At the end of May, the Road District also applies 180 day mosquito dunks to all storm basins within the township. The dunks release a bacterium which is toxic to all mosquitos and their larvae. This helps alleviate the population of mosquitos. 5) Blackboard Connect - We encourage all residents to register with Blackboard Connect. With Blackboard Connect we are able to inform and communicate with residents by sending personalized voice messages and email messages to each Warren Township resident regarding specific and time-sensitive information such as, mosquito abatements, leaf collection, emergencies, road closures, etc. 6) Clothing & Textile Recycling – In partnership with SWALCO, we accept new and gently used clothing, accessories and textiles-all fabrics, all sizes. The donations will be reused. The program diverts large amount of materials from landfills, and supports the community in a variety of ways. For Road District information please visit https://www.warrentownship.net/162/Highway or contact the
Warren Township Road District office at 847-244-1101, Ext. 301.

The Board was pleased that several residents attended the June meeting, and would like to see more people attend meetings in the future. Shortly after the meeting, President Carlson received the following thank you note. President Carlson -
I was at last week’s meeting with my twin boys (the Boy Scouts) and baby daughter (my wife was at work). They are working on Citizenship of the Community merit badge and one requirement was to attend a public meeting and pick an item of the agenda that may have two different opinions.
Anyway, I want to thank you and the Board of Commissioners for listening to our concern of wanting another port-a-potty near the tennis courts. We frequently pass through this area during walks, our boys play tennis & basketball there and we enjoy Music by the Lake at this location and it’s very nice to have a place to go to the bathroom. My boys enjoyed hearing different opinions from the Board about portable port-a-potty vs a permanent outhouse structure.
My boys were on a walk yesterday and told us that a new port-a-potty is back at the tennis courts! Thank you and the Board very much for listening to the residents of Grandwood Park! We are very happy with all you continue to do to make it a great neighborhood.

DO YOU HAVE A CONCERN ABOUT LOUD MUSIC, OR GRASS THAT HASN'T BEEN CUT?
The Park District receives calls occasionally asking us who to contact about concerns of neighbors not cutting their grass, collecting inoperable cars on their property, or loud music or noise. Many of these items are addressed in Lake County's Public Nuisance Ordinance, which you can read here. You can call 847-377-4444 to report a concern, or file a report on-line with Lake County's "Report a Concern"
system, by clicking on one of the links below. This is for non-emergency issues - in the event of an emergency, please call 911. You can use this system to report issues under Lake County’s jurisdiction, as listed below. When the concern relates to a Village/Municipality or other agency, they will notify you and when possible, direct your concern to the appropriate agency.
Planning, Building & Development (unincorporated Lake County)
Division of Transportation
If you have any other concerns and you don't know who to contact, please feel free to contact the Park District office at 847-356-0008 and we will do our best to direct you to the correct agency.
If you take walks through Lake Park, you have probably noticed people fishing in Grandwood Lake. Have you ever wondered if anyone catches anything? The simple answer is - YES. Thomas Severinson, a Grandwood Park resident, shared this picture of one of the fish he caught in the lake. Thomas practices catch and release, so this guy is back in the lake! If you have any pictures you'd like to share as well, please email them to parkdistrict@grandwoodpark.net. Just remember, you are required to have an Illinois fishing license to fish in Grandwood Lake.
