Call for trainee speakers: 2025 GME DEI Virtual Open House Current trainees are invited to share their experiences as part of the upcoming 2025 GME DEI Virtual Open House on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. This year’s event will highlight the powerful voices of our trainees through a special segment titled "My Story." For this segment, the GME DEI team is seeking three current trainees (residents or fellows) to discuss their personal journeys at Emory and reflect on how the institution's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion has influenced their training experience. This is an opportunity to inspire prospective applicants and showcase Emory's inclusive and supportive environment. Reflecting on World AIDS Day World AIDS Day took place on December 1. This day serves as a reminder to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS and to honor the lives of those who have been impacted by these diseases. The theme of this year’s World AIDS Day was “Collective Action: Sustain and Accelerate HIV Progress.“ Faculty, staff, and trainees in the Department of Medicine, specifically our Infectious Disease centers, programs, and studies, which include Emory Center for AIDS Research (CFAR), Research in HIV and Women's Health and Y This Harmony Matters (RHYTHM), Integrating HIV and heart health in South Africa (iHEART-SA) project, Emory T32 Training Program in Translational Research to End the HIV Epidemic, STAR, EN-RTP, and Gut HIV Reservoir & Heart Study, embody this theme as they work year-round to study and hopefully end, the HIV/AIDS Epidemic, as well as care for and support those impacted. The recent JAMA article titled The Urgent Case for Recommitting to Global HIV/AIDS Goals, co-written by Department Chair Carlos del Rio, MD, and AMA president Victor Dzau, MD, further demonstrates our chair's commitment to ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Breakthroughs by our faculty, as outlined in this recent Emory New Center article, Clinical trial at Emory University reveals twice-yearly injection to be 96% effective in HIV prevention, contribute to the progress being made in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
