Dear Brookes Westshore Families and Friends,

I wish everyone a wonderful Spring Break. Students have been so busy over the past term with activities, projects and academics and are ready for some time off.  Grade 12 students will continue to prepare for their final exams over the spring break and their last day of classes is April 28th. The exams start on May 1st, and we are all looking forward to their graduation on May 19th.  Plans are in place for this very special event.

Term 2 report cards will be issued on April 6th and parent teacher conferences will be held the following week.  On Wednesday, April 12th International parents will have the opportunity to book an appointment and on Thursday, April 13th our local parent conferences will be held and booked on Schools Buddy.  You will receive a notification to set-up your appointment the first week back to school after the break.

Our MYP4 (Grade 9 students) are planning a Family BBQ for April 14th from 3:30-6:00pm, for our school community.  They are planning games, activities and handicrafts for students and parents which will raise funds to support the Ukrainian students who should be arriving in April/May. Please keep this date in mind to help Grade 9 support their new classmates.

With kind regards,

Linda Bayes

Deputy Head of School

DP Visual Arts

During the 2-years of the IB Diploma Programme, our Visual Art students have learned the skills and techniques to produce their own independent artwork in various media. They have gone into depth in their chosen concepts and ideas, creating stories with their artwork. This week, our DP2 Visual Art students have worked very hard preparing for their Visual Art Exhibition, to be held after the Spring break, April 5th, when they will have the opportunity to showcase their artistic work and curation. DP2 Visual Art students’ parents are invited to celebrate their child’s personal growth, achievement, and creativity! Please RSVP by Monday, April 3rd to events@westshore.brookes.org.

Have a great Spring break, everyone. Look forward to seeing you again in April!

With gratitude,

Rui Li

Vice Principal of Academics / DP Coordinator

Silent Auction for Ukrainian Students

We are working with some dedicated parents to put on a Silent Auction on Friday, April 28th in support of the students from Ukraine. There will be appies and drinks, and lots of great items from the local community to bid on! Tickets will go on sale after spring break - mark your calendars!

Email:  events@westshore.brookes.org if you would like to help with this event (organizing, soliciting items for the auction, helping out on the 28th - we need lots of hands!).

Spring Term ASAs - sign up now!

Sign up for our new spring term ASAs through schoolsbuddy! Parents or students can sign up for their activities through schoolsbuddy. These activities will start April 11th and run until June 10th. It is important to sign up by Tuesday, March 21st, to help ensure that we keep our off-campus bookings at companies like paddle-boarding with South Island SUP, WildPlay, rock- climbing, spin co, blacksmithing, and rowing.

Tofino Trips

Last chance to sign up for the Tofino trips which will begin the first week back from spring break! Sign up will close on Monday, March 20th. Sign up must be done through Schoolsbuddy by parents only. There are very limited spots available on each trip, so please sign up asap to hold your spot!  If you have any difficulties signing up, you can email Ms Aija for help. We will stay at the beautiful Ocean Village Resort located right on Mackenzie beach! We will surf, walk the beautiful beaches of Tofino, visit the local surf shops, and have beach fires and smores + more!

Times Colonist 10K

The TC 10k is a great challenge for those looking at staying fit and motivated over the winter months and into Spring. This year's race is on Sunday, April 30th. We are hoping to enter a school team.

If you are interested in participating in the race, please add yourself to our school team ‘BROOKES WESTSHORE’ when you register online.  If we have 10 or more people registered by March 17th, we will receive race shirts with our school's name and logo on it.  You will also get a $5.00 registration discount by joining our school team!  We hope to see you out there on race day!

Karaoke Competition

We finished the week with some fun - a karaoke competition for House Points in community block on Thursday, and a lip-sync battle at lunchtime on Friday. Students really stepped up and had a blast - we have some great voices in the school!

The students made a great audience - applauding the singers and singing along with their friends!

A rendition of Happy Birthday brought the house down (along with a Mr. B and Emmett duet)

Staff and student judges took their roles seriously!

Tuesday was Pi Day - and we held a pie-eating contest to celebrate!

Basketball

Congratulations to our senior boys' basketball team who travelled to Vancouver for the Provincial Championships last week. They returned to the Island this past weekend having placed 7th in BC - the best result in the history of our school! We are so proud of their achievement, and hard work, and their sportsmanship! They have put our school on the map of BC basketball!

A special shout out to our graduating grade 12 players - Alex, Seiya, Jackson, Vigo, and Coen. We thank you for your endless leadership and commitment. We applaud you for your dedication and will to learn and grow. We wish you all the best in your bright futures! Go Gryphons!

Senior Girls' Soccer

The senior girls’ soccer team had their first game this week– an exhibition game against Spectrum High School. Although they lost 4-1, the girls played well and showed great determination. They were rewarded with a lovely goal, a through ball well finished by Barbara.  Go Gryphons!
