Green Leader Q&A #59, Ian Baird, Outdoor Events Development Manager, Brighton & Hove City Council

Ian has worked in the outdoor events industry for over 25 years. Having held numerous roles and managed his own events production company, he switched to working with local government in 2022.

Since joining the local authority at Brighton & Hove as Outdoor Events Development Manager, Ian has made building sustainable practices and logistics central to the city’s offer, including making improved sustainable practice a core priority in the recently published ten-year events strategy for Brighton & Hove. The Show Must Go On is LIVE: State of the Industry Report and Climate Transition Plan 2030

The third edition of The Show Must Go On (SMGO) report and the Climate Transition Plan 2030 for the UK live outdoor events industry is now LIVE.

Following a successful launch at the House of Commons in February, the report presents benchmarks on current practices within the industry and a robust roadmap for lower emissions through the 30 Climate Actions Checklist for Outdoor Events.

#SMGO Climate Actions Checklist for Live Outdoor Events: Take Action

As part of ‘The Show Must Go On #3’ industry report and Climate Transition Plan 2030, the Vision for Sustainable Events Pledge for festivals and events has been updated. It calls for pledge-takers to implement a checklist of 30 Climate Actions by 2030 or sooner.

This checklist offers a ready-made sustainability strategy for events, based on a practical list of actions designed to be realistic for events of all types and sizes to implement.

Pledge-takers will gain access to free webinar masterclasses and exclusive roundtable sessions at the Sustainable Events Summit (21st October 2026).

The Sustainable Event Summit will return to The Showman’s Show on Wednesday 21st October 2026. This free-to-attend, action-focused summit will focus on the next steps in the Climate Transition Plan 2030, as presented in the recently launched Show Must Go On report.

Instagrid Wins Green Award at TPi Awards

Instagrid has been recognised as a sustainability leader in the live events industry, taking home the Green Award at last month’s TPi Awards ceremony.

Instagrid’s award-winning submission spotlighted several high-profile projects — including Shambala Festival, Pokémon GO Fest in Paris, and Lido Festival — where their portable, emission-free power systems replaced traditional fuel-powered generators. Arte Pelo Clima (Art for Climate) is an initiative from Julie’s Bicycle and People’s Palace Projects, bringing together artists across Brazil to respond to climate challenges in their territories. Part of We Make Tomorrow, the project highlights culture’s role in climate action.
