Hungry to Perform?

photo of sandwich piled with French fries

Tuesday, Jan. 25 | 9-10 p.m.

The Pittsburgh salad. The Primanti's sandwich. Our city often gets creative by taking something good and adding a little extra. (Often fries.)

This year, we take our virtual open mic nights and add fries. At Open Mic N'at, the "n'at" is anything you can share via Zoom. Take us through a slideshow of your visual art. Share your video creations. Record music and harmonize with yourself live.

Of course, we welcome all the usual performance genres, too: original music or covers; poetry, storytelling, and spoken word; skits or monologues.

Every performer is eligible to receive a $20 Primanti Brothers gift card. We'll award one gift card by raffle after each event.

Find Stories in Data

Thursday, Jan. 20 | Noon-1:30 p.m.

Stories are powerful. Yet stories can be hard to uncover, especially when it comes to finding them in data. A single dataset can contain many different stories depending on the values of the storyteller and the context of their experiences.

Want to hone your storytelling skills? This virtual workshop will introduce the typical kinds of stories that can be found in data and give you practice in finding your own data stories.

Feel more confident “reading” datasets to uncover the stories they contain. Produce data visualizations or narratives, or simply become a more critical consumer of data.

This workshop is presented by the University of Pittsburgh Year of Data and Society and the Center for Creativity.

Step into Our Social Spotlight

Do you have pictures or videos of creative work that you've done in one of our spaces? Would you like to see your project(s) featured on our social media?

We love to see all of the amazing things that you make with us: fairy houses, birthday cards, fun costumes, new songs, and so much more.

If you’d like to see your work in one of our upcoming social media posts, email creative@pitt.edu with pictures and videos (as many as you’d like!) of anything you’ve worked on in the C4C.

Don’t forget to include your name and social media handles so we can tag you. We can’t wait to see what you send us!

Explore Social Justice through Printing

What does social justice have to do with art and DIY print culture? What stories do you want to explore about the past and present of activism? What creative activities can help you share the texts and contexts of these organized movements against oppression?

The Eve Adams Artist-Scholars in Residence Program comes with a stipend of $4000 and is open to any current Dietrich School or CGS undergraduate interested in spending Summer 2022 exploring a social justice topic of their choice through scholarship and creative printmaking. No prior experience with creative arts or using a letterpress is needed.

Applications are due March 14. Join us for a virtual information session on January 19 at 4 p.m.
