Dear Oakland Promise Community,

The month of May is traditionally known to be a very busy and significant time for many in the academic space. Whether it is gearing up for finals, preparing to walk the stage at graduation, or planning for future next steps, we know there is a lot going on and much to be excited about.

However, we also want to call to mind that May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, as well as Mental Health Awareness Month. In recognition of this, we want to dedicate this month’s newsletter to lifting up stories and raising awareness.

We want to take time to uplift our AAPI Community and raise awareness of the history behind AAPI Heritage Month. We also want to be able to create a space for those within our greater OP community to talk and share freely about mental health, and ensure that awareness of support and resources are widely known.

Please take time to learn and engage from some of the articles and resources shared in this month’s newsletter.

College Access and Completion Career Week Events

Last week we wrapped a week long of events for our CACC Career Week. We kicked off the week with an Internship Infosession with our partner WindRiver where Scholars learned more about their Computer Science and Engineering internships. We then had representatives from the UC Davis Medical Center discuss the path to medical school and how to best prepare for it. We closed our Career Week with a Career Panel of professionals from the fields of medicine, tech, and business. The panelists provided us with great insight into their careers and how to find the right career for you.

Weren't able to attend? Check out our recordings the UC Davis Med Center Infosession and for our Career Panel.
