Graduating class names 2021 Hippocratic Award recipient

Students from the class of 2021 announced Ana Turner, MD, an assistant professor and clerkship director for the department of psychiatry at the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville, as the 2021 winner of the Hippocratic Award for her outstanding teaching abilities and her fierce dedication to providing care for marginalized populations.

Clinical science and basic science faculty research awards announced

Michael Okun, MD, and Jiang Bian, PhD, were recently announced as the winners of the 2021 College of Medicine Clinical Science Research Award and the UF College of Medicine Basic Science Research Award, respectively. Each year the college presents an award to a clinical science and a basic science faculty member for outstanding achievement, productivity and research discovery.

Augmented reality in the classroom

Students learn using 3D-printed organs and augmented reality holograms in a demonstration held April 8-9. The collaboration with Nicklaus Children's Hospital and industry leaders ApoQlar and Stratasys provided this immersive experience. As part of the presentation, Stratasys donated 40 3D-printed hearts for students to dissect and learn from.

Thompson and Kelly awarded ELAM fellowship

Pediatricians Maria Kelly, MD, and Lindsay Thompson, MD, begin a prestigous fellowship that prepares faculty for leadership roles in academic medicine. The Hedwig Van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Medicine Program is hosted by the Drexel University College of Medicine. They join 12 other College of Medicine female faculty with this honor.

Legacy Challenge: Michelot Michel

The Legacy Challenge was issued four years ago by alumni to reach 100 gifts to scholarships to aid outstanding students like Michelot Michel in their medical education. As president and academic chair of the class of 2023, Michel advocates for his classmates to ensure each student receives a fair and equitable medical education.
