Powerful final spurt

Dear members and friends of ZELLCHEMING,

There are only two weeks left until ZELLCHEMING-Expo 2024 opens its doors at the RheinMain CongressCenter (RMCC) in Wiesbaden from June 18 to 20!

"We are now in the final spurt and are very pleased that we have already achieved some of our goals: both the number of exhibitors and the net space sold have increased again compared to previous years. We would like to thank all companies and supporters for their great commitment to our Expo", says Petra Hanke, Managing Director of ZELLCHEMING Service GmbH. "Our focus in the last weeks before the event is now, among other things, the number of visitors, which we would like to increase further. We hope to welcome as many ZELLCHEMING members as possible on site!

The ZELLCHEMING-Expo 2024 (end of May)

- 143 exhibitors (2023: 107 / 2022: 82) and 28 co-exhibitors
- 1,852 m² net space sold (2023: 1,743 / 2022: 1,758)

The special areas are also well booked and will provide plenty of stimulus: There are 6 exhibitors in the Newcomer Pavilion, 4 exhibitors in the SME area and 7 companies in the Start-Up Area. The new special show Energy and Sustainability was also well received.

Reaching for the stars

We are delighted to welcome Jeanette Partner to the Women4Paper keynote and subsequent lunch at AFRY (booth no. 70). A member of the supervisory board and managing director of Change Corporation in Hamburg, she specializes in strategic consulting for new work, leadership and communication and will address the question "How can women succeed in a career in STEM professions?

Mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology: the STEM disciplines form the central economic innovation sector, and it is important that this fascination also reaches and inspires women. The existence and progress of our society and of humanity as a whole depend on the constant search for new knowledge - the intelligence and empathy of women, who make up half of the world's population, are indispensable if we are to meet the challenges of the future.

Jeanette Partner will demonstrate the benefits of men and women working together - and reaching for the stars!

Good reasons to join ZELLCHEMING

Timo Seeger, New Business Development Manager Buckman Europe

  • What role does the paper, pulp or fiber-based industry play for you/your company/institute?

The paper industry plays an important role for me personally, as this is where I found my professional home after school and the Bundeswehr.
I first came into contact with the paper industry through my first employer and the dual study program at the DHBW and haven't wanted to miss it since.
From the very beginning I was fascinated by the technology and the people behind paper.

The paper industry is also very important to my company, as it is not only one of our main business areas, but we are also constantly working with our customers to improve productivity and to continuously improve and optimize the use of chemicals, raw materials and energy in terms of sustainability.

  • What made you decide to become a member of ZELLCHEMING?

Above all, the personal and professional exchange has motivated me to become a member. I have always followed the work of the ZELLCHEMING association with interest and I like the idea of being able to actively participate in the ongoing development of existing and new topics and to contribute to the transfer of knowledge within our industry.

I also enjoy meeting new people, exchanging ideas and expanding my professional network.

  • In what way would you like to contribute to ZELLCHEMING?
First of all, I would like to play an active role in the Technical Committee Microbiology. I am also excited to see what the future holds.

Bio-based suction roll covers for more sustainable papermaking

With SolarFlow Green, our ZELLCHEMING member Voith is setting another standard in the field of products for papermaking from renewable raw materials. The suction press roll cover is certified according to the internationally recognized DIN CERTCO for bio-based products. The cover is a premium polyurethane roll cover and, according to the manufacturer, features a maximum storage volume that remains constant over a long period of use.

"Achieving high dry content is extremely important to us," says Robin Linney, Mill Manager at Palm Paper in King's Lynn, UK. "With SolarFlow Green, we have been able to implement our unique surface design to create a high accumulation volume and maximum dewatering in the press section. We achieve this with resource-saving, sustainable materials. A winning combination.

The bio-based polyurethane material gives the press roll cover a high level of stability to withstand extreme nip conditions. This enables high machine speeds with high dry content and low energy consumption. "With SolarFlow Green, we are the first manufacturer to offer our customers a bio-based suction roll cover certified by DIN CERTCO. We look forward to working with our customers to make paper production even more sustainable and resource-efficient," says Dr. Christina Bauer, Global Product Manager Press Roll Covers at Voith.

GP Conference with participation of the ZELLCHEMING Technical Committee Microbiology

At the beginning of May, a training conference was held at the Gernsbach Papermaking Center. The interesting program presented to the master students and future papermakers included topics that cannot be covered in regular training. This requires a wealth of specialized knowledge, which the speakers brought with them.

The members of the ZELLCHEMING Technical Committee Microbiology (FA MBIO), Wolf-Dieter Ahlbrecht (FOLBB Baiersbronn), Dr. Frank Dürkes (Servophil AG) and Dr. Kerstin Keppler (Wöllner GmbH) held a microbiology workshop. The main focus was on microorganisms and the problems they cause. Another topic was the detection of microorganisms and the advantages of online instruments for monitoring. In two short sessions, simple detection tests were tried out and, with a little courage, the participants were able to prove themselves as olfactory experts. The popularity of these courses at the ZELLCHEMING-Expo shows that these topics are relevant to the paper industry.

It was then explained in detail how microbiological problems can be tackled chemically or biologically. In addition to the classical biocide concept, the focus was on biological cleaning with probiotics and chemical cleaning. The microbiological knowledge was then complemented by a presentation of the regulations that paper industry leaders are constantly confronted with. Oliver Thüringer from Marbach gave an introduction to the world of die-cutting technology, a far cry from microbiology but no less interesting. All speakers were available for questions from the audience. The dialog can be continued at the ZELLCHEMING-Expo 2024 in Wiesbaden, to which the next generation is cordially invited at the ZELLCHEMING Career Day.
